Photogs: Who need new Canon gear?

So I'm purchasing a new 5D after the first of the year with all the rebates going on and what not. For those of you who don't know how these rebates work, the more items you purchase, the better the discount. More specifically, if I purchase two or more items, my rebate on the 5d increases to $600 instead of $300. Originally, I was planning on purchasing the 24-105 as well, but have now decided against it, as money need be put elsewhere. So the big question—is there anyone out there looking to purchase any of the gear off this list http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/co...=PromotionsAct before Jan. 13th? If so, lemme know. I can get a better deal for both of us. Word. And thanks for listening to that rambling incoherent explanation.

I've also been looking at this deal from canon. Take a look at the one's available from costco, as they give the max discount even if you buy just one camera. Even if you have to get a membership (<$50/year it works out).

mmm... EF 400mm f/5.6L... so tempting.

If no one jumps on board with you and if my year-end bonus is a bit larger than I am expecting, I could be persuaded.

Looks like that Costco price is super full price. If I recall correctly, you can pick up the 5d from Adorama or maybe even B & H for around $2800.00, which with the $600 rebate would come to just $2200. From the initial looks of it, I'd probably stay away from Costco for camera schtuff...

I plan on buying the EF 70-200mm f/2.8L USM or the EF 70-200mm f/4L USM, depending on a number of things, before Jan.2nd. What kind of deal are we talking about here?

    PM me!

The IS isn't worth the extra however much it is.

    That's simply not true.

**** If anyone is seriously looking for a 70-200 f/2.8L I might make you a nice deal on mine. I bought it in June and it's in PERFECT condition. I'd like to bump up to the IS version if I can get decent $$$ for mine. I'd be willing to beat the BHPhoto price by a enough to make it worth your while.

If it wasn't all still photography stuff, I'd be on board. But it doesn't look like any HDV stuff is included.

If I didn't have an investment approaching $20K in a Nikon/Nikkor system, I might be interested myself.

Not entirely sure if i'll be buying any more gear before the end of the year, but if so i'll let you know. However just to make sure this thread seems more like a gear swap.....

I have a barely used 70-200 4.0L if anyone is interested. Let me know.

As long as you buy from an authorized Canon dealer, you get the rebate as listed in the link I posted above. Doesn't matter what msrp is, per se. Regardless of the price that you actually purchase at, as long as it's at an authorized dealer, you get the rebate.

    a bit about Costco:

my dad had purchased a Canon (SD400) I think, and 3.5 years later the LCD screen and buttons stopped working. Now I don't remember why he didn't do warranty service @ canon (it might have been out of warranty) but he found his receipt strolled into costco and got a full refund including the shipping he paid (off costco.com). He then turned around a bought a new camera right there and then! So costco is not too bad for the price premium you might have to pay over other places.
