    South America Info

Yeah yeah use the search function but i really couldn't come up with anything relevant. I'm going to ATTEMPT to try to convince the wife that a GREAT place to spend our first anniversary would be skiing in south america over the 4th of July holiday and that doing Disneyland for the 3rd straight year would just be a waste of time and money because skiing is MUCH more economical. Only catch is that we will have a 2-3 month old baby with us and I'm not so sure I want to just hand him off to a childcare place in South America for a week or whether I want to leave him here with In-Laws or try to convince the In-laws that SA would be a fun time for them too(we'd be going to disney with them anyway) Whats my best argument or am I better off holding my ammo till the kids old enough to ski?
For sure, you have to be lost to find a place that can't be found, elseways everyone would know where it was

i never paid attention to day care options when i was in LL.... my first thought would be to beg the in laws to take your baby, much less hassle/more fun/cheaper for you and your wife wherever you go, and much easier on your baby as well.

Depending on how healthy your 2-3 month year old is, travelling could be a drama. Consider what happens if they get sick.... diapers, formula, etc.. major undertaking

I have a nine year old son and I don't think I'd bring him to S. America. Not because he's not a good skier...I just think that's a bit of an intense trip for a kid. Long flight, etc. Plus the night life from what I understand is more adult oriented.

I'd advise leaving the baby home or if you're going to bring your kid, wait til the kid is like 13 or so and can handle all the long transfers, etc to get there. We're leaving our son w/ my parents when we go in August this summer. Can't wait!!

I have a friend who has done a lot of travelling around the world. He and his wife took the kids since they were squalling infants. It was mostly third-world and jungle travel. The kids were none the worse for wear and his daughter was travelling solo to Europe when she was 15. Kids are pretty resilient but I have none so that's what my opinion's worth.
If you have a problem & think that someone else is going to solve it for you then you have two problems.

Sorry to butt in here, Sprite, but I gots to disagree. Some of the best childhood memories I have were when my parents took me (6 yo) and my sister (10 yo) to England and Ireland. Your backyard is a wonderous mystery at that age--Just imagine seeing another land for the first time!

I wish I'd travelled when I was younger - it is a great experience.

Getting sick while travelling in Italy & Slovenia (food poisoning) really opened my eyes - being sick at home is enough of a pain, but overseas it's an ordeal. Especially if you don't speak the language, don't know medical protocol, have to pay in cash, etc. I can only imagine the stress if it were a child.

It's just something to think about - esp. with Infants who are prone to getting sick, and will have absolutely no memory of travels at that age.
