    184 Volkl Mantra Mounting Position

Had a pair last year that were mounted centered, had a delam and was lucky enough to get them warranted... Last year I felt that they were mounted to far forward and wanted to move them back a bit. Now I'm just trying to decide how far. I'm thinking somewhere between 1 and 3cm, but need some advice. Does anyone have any experience mounting the Mantras back?

What point where they mounted at originally? Standard mount? Core center? We can't tell you how far to go back without knowing the original point.

He means that when you say center mounted in your first post (above) what do YOU mean by it? I'm assuming you mean on the line or the 'standard' mount. Core center would mean putting your midsole in the middle of the ski (e.g. like a park ski would for landing switch).

I'm not familiar with the Mantra but going 2cm back would make a noticible difference (I have done it on my skis).

I have a pair of this years Mantra 191cm and tried them at the recommended line at first. I didn´t like it at all as it felt way to far forward. The ski felt like a jib ski and tend to oversteer, especially in short turns. I longer carving turns they worked ok. I have now remounted my Mantras to a position -2,2cm behind the mark. I couldn´t go further back because of the previous holes from the toe piece (could have placed the toe totally behind the previous mount also ofcourse but that seemed a bit to much). I tried the skis this weekend and found it to be way better balanced, but it still feels a bit forward. If i got a new pair I would have mounted them 3-3,2 cm back from the mark. If I had a pair of 184:s I wouldn´t go that far back. -2,5 maybe. Definately not on the line though.

The swedish material guru HitMe (not that active anymore, but still king of the swedish forum www.freeride.se) skis Mantra 184 and mounted them -2 and seems to be satisfied with the result.

Thanks for helping explain. Yes, I meant mounting on the line. I put them up against a 180 explosiv and was pretty shocked about how different the suggested mount was. In the past I have mounted my 190 explosiv 2cm forward. Thought I would mount at a happy medium, but wasn't sure exactly where given the difference in side-cut between the two...

I can't remember.... has the mounting position of a Mantra been discussed before??? Maybe I'll do a search.... It sounds familiar.
