SNOWPACK SYNOPSIS
A powerful storm moved across the region Thursday and
Thursday night. This system was the strongest in a series of
storms that have affected the Pacific Northwest over the
past five days. Prior to the Thursday’s storm about two to
five feet of snow had fallen at fluctuating freezing levels
earlier in the week. The storm Thursday brought rising
freezing levels, very strong winds and heavy precipitation.
Most NWAC mountain stations received from 1 to 3 inches of
water equivalent ending early Friday. New snow amounts of 12
to 20 inches have been received both west and east of the
Cascade crest and over the Olympics. The heaviest
precipitation came late Thursday afternoon and early
Thursday night with the warmest temperatures. This caused
widespread natural avalanches, reported at Stevens,
Snoqualmie Passes as well as Alpental, Crystal and Mt Hood
Meadows ski area. This has shifted the danger to newly
forming wind slab layers on lee slopes, mainly northeast
through southeast facing, especially at high terrain where
winds are strongest. It should be noted that significant new
snow accumulated along the eat slopes as well with these
recent storms. Extra caution is urged in the backcountry
following these powerful storms. Due to the strength of the
winds, also be aware that loading may occur much lower on
lee slopes than normal.
Just thought that I should pass this on.
xtal patrol was bombing like crazy all morning...and they still weren't able to get the chunky slab crust to release!
6 foot fracture on hemis at baker, with wind transport decreasing to 4 feet by mid day. Lots of natrual fratures on the arm, all about mid slope. 6 inches of grauple deposited on leeward slopes = Sketchy!
b carefull out there biatcheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees no more of this getting lost shit
