WWMD: Late Night Arrival to Whistler Options

I found a perfect non-stop flight on Cathay Pacific (GREAT airline if you haven't bee on it before) from New York to Vancouver that gets in at 1230pm local time....

BUT, The last Perimiter bus from the airport is at 1130pm and I really don't want to rent a car as it is just me and a friend and we will have no use for it while we are there.

Anyone know of any other relativley affordable options for late night travel from YVR to Whislter? Thanks.

There are tons of "private" shuttles (vans, rather than tour bus) running up/back at just about any time of the day, try calling one of the companies that runs those and see if you can hop on one. Perimeter has them, but so do about 1000 other companies too. One of the W/B locals can probably rattle off some names, I'm drawing a blank.

Would like to avoid that if possible, burning another $100+ at an airport hotel to sleep like 4 hours is not the optimal plan.

As far as the private shuttle/car servicers, I've clalled a few and they are not cheap: $300 and more for one way....

Are there any ride boards anyone knows about? I'm sure if we could get 6 or so heads we could run a van on the cheap.

Hah! I know that flight, and you won't be the only one on it heading up to Whistler (although sometimes the plane is totally empty, which is nice). So what Big E said...

A few years back I went out on that same flight with 9 friends; we were supposed to have two SUVs reserved but when we got there they would only give us a minivan (because they were out of trucks and because only one of us was of car rental age). It was sleeting and snowing, and the rental folks strongly advised us to wait until morning so we could get things sorted out. You should have seen the expression on the Mounties who pulled over our Ford Aerostar, packed with 9 people and probably 20 pairs of skis, in the middle of a gnarly coastal storm, at 2 AM, on the entrance to the Sea to Sky Highway... Oh, and then when we got to Whistler, our buddy who was already there had fallen asleep and couldn't give us directions, so we drove around until 5 AM. Not good times.

    Ok

Why not just take said four hour nap in the airport. Act like one of those stranded tourists and pass out for a while, you'll likely be tired anyway. Take the shuttle in the morning and be done with it.

Ummm. No. I've slept in airports too many times. Does not make for a great day on the hill the next day.

Again, the goal is to take this butter flight and wake up at Whistler the next morning. Any help on shuttle services that won't cost a fortune?

be sure to check the road closures for construction. lately the road between whistler and squish shuts down from 1-5am.
Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature... Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure or nothing. -Helen Keller

Not a total closure, but maybe an hour-long delay, depending on the day.
