    Adobe Lightroom

Anybody know what happens when this thing expires?

I am worried I won't be able to access my photos. I am backing them all up, but I am just curious.

Also, anyone used Aperture? How does it compare to Lightroom?

I have heard Lightroom will be about $300. Seems worth it, but I am curious if there is anything better out there.

    Lightroom 4 expires Feb 28th 2007.
Removing it won't make your pictures dissapear.

From everything I've heard Lightroom is better than Aperature.
If not for the photoshop/bridge integration but just the layout in general.

Lightroom does not modify the original files whatsoever. All the changes go in a "sidecar" file. No worries if you decide not to buy.

I've been using it with my new D80, because Nikon never updated Capture to work with that camera. They want you to upgrade to Capture NX, which, from all I've read, sucks balls. Thanks Nikon. Lightroom is tremendously quick and easy, and does all I need for initial workup. Still need Photoshop though for advanced tweeking.

Canon's Digital Photo Pro isn't that bad, but I'd rather use Lightroom.

I've read that the new Aperture will have features for remotely controlling your camera and actually shooting photos from the software. I had to think for a minute why that would be desirable, but I guess it's for studio environments.

I have been really pleased with Lightroom's design, layout, and features. Is Aperture available even for Windows? What's nice is that my GF and I both use Lightroom, even though I have a Mac and she has a petri dish.

And there's plenty of other software thats better at doing just that? (Also the Canons all come with software to control the camera from a computer)

    No Aperature for windows.
