    grumpy Tram/Lift line people

standing in the tram line at snowbird this morning i had the pleasure of listening to numerous grumpy bastards who figured that they should have been able to jump the line because of their awesomeness
    wah, wah, too many people...
    wah wah, i can't believe it's monday....
wah wah, all this snow and i wil be on the second tram...
    wah wah, etc, etc,....

    get out of bed earlier.....

maybe people were pissed because they let 55 people in the back door for the first tram. i was three rows back and was the last person on.

    just maybe.

Way to go Bonar, Piss off the people who actually pay.

maybe you can stop letting on 10 pros and their friends and make em wait in line like the rest of us.

    Just a thought.

When I ski at the bird I always use the short line for the blue/red busses. Fuck a bunch of that waiting in line noise.

i'm guessing the 55 people you mention paid for the privilege(sp), or at least some of them as i was in that group (or whatever tram left at 8AM)
the grumps were in the priority pass line for the 9AM tram...

no i talking about public 9am.

    3rd row cut?

thats the most bogus shit .

now if they were light loading for what ever reason, that would be one thing- but there were 125 on that tram.

I was in line at the post office, and the guy ahead of me couldn't speak engrish and was mailing something to Korea in a banana box and was paying in pennies and nickels. I left my American SUV running outside and was burning a good 5 minutes off my lunch hour. Man that pissed me off!!!

Ditto for the sake of nevadans.
If you get on early, that means one of a few things:
    you are:
    a) someone who knows people on the mountain, and are most likely a socially active member of the community
    b) someone who knows people on the mountain who want to buy pot from you, and are most likely a socially active member of the community
    c) someone who knows nobody on the mountain, but has sufficient cash in the pocket to grease the wheels of the resort town (which is how we make our tips and get to ride...) The resort really isn't making money off of passholders, you know.
    d) someone (a lady) who has seen the scene in Hot Dog, and is greasing the wheels of the tram operator, and is most likely a socially active member of the community. Probably knows/dates b), and gets bought drinks by c), so b) doesn't have to spend half his pathetic paycheck getting his girl lubricated.

    Hey Pointedem,

I wasn't there first thing this morning but I've seem similar things happen before and I agree that that is bogus. I think we saw an email from you today saying the same thing too...

There are supposed to be all sorts of rules about the side door but it seems like at the beginning of every season they get forgotten/abused and then there is a big crackdown. I'll pass on your complaints to the people who need to know.

Bob just stood there and watched the whole thing.

The funniest part was i called him out on it and he stared at me and walked away.

whatever, just gotta get there earlier....

Getting there earlier definitely works but don't be so sure that just because Bob didn't respond to you that it means he won't do anything.

The scene was exactly the same last year - at about the same time of year - and they added an employee who's sole job was to police the side door and keep the numbers down.

I've been resisting the urge to put up a thread like this.

I think I may have a problem skiing snowbird... my whole skiing life until this season I've been on chairs at relatively uncrowded ski areas. These last few weeks I've mostly lapped the tram. I think it's fucking with my head, all the conversations around me all the time, so much of it negative venomous bullshit. People jabbing and poking and just generally doing asshole stuff in there. I actually lost my temper a bit yesterday and told somebody to stop being a dumbass and shut the fuck up. Then I felt like an asshole and it sort of ruined my mood for skiing. I mean, it's kind of wrecking my stoke right now just thinking about it.

I actually had some "rock star" who will go unnamed looking at me talking shit about people who wear helmets...blah blah blah, if you're going to wear a helmet you better fucking go big brah, if you're going to wear that thing you better not puss out..etc etc.

What do you guys do to keep it from getting to you?

It's a serious question, because this has been screwing with my motivation to ski. I get used to that long run and all the chairs seem so lame after the tram, but the tram is making me insane.

I wish I could just assimilate and like the tram like a good utard.

    Hey Yeti,

I'm sorry to hear about the destoking. That is really a drag.

My best advice for hapiness on the Tram is to head for the ends. It takes a bit of planning but if you make it a priority you can usually thread your way in there unless you're in the last 1/3 of people to load. The ends just generally have more room and don't get so tightly packed as the middle. They also have a lot better ventilation.

If I get stuck in the middle I just wade in with a big grin on my face and try to make freinds and get people to give up that little bit of extra space they are trying to hoard. There IS enough room on there but so many people try to hoard it that it can make it really tight in places.

The other option is to not take the Tram. If you're doing laps of the Cirque then it's pretty much the only way but now that the new Peruvian chair is open there will be a lot of days when there is no need to take the Tram.

I second that. If I am skiing by myself, headphones save the day. I really dont want to talk to people, I just want to ski. So if I have my headphones on and people start talking to me, I just point at my headphones and that usually solves the problem. The back door problem is a bigger issue though. It really does get out of hand sometimes. Part of hating the back door is obviously jealousy, but I still pay Snowbird $1000 bucks for a pass, why shouldnt I get on first tram if I am there before all the sidedoor people? Also if anyone from the Bird is seeing this, please come up with some way to tell how long the tram line is from the bottom of the new Peruvian chair. I hate skiing on to the bridge only to see that the tram line is out the door and into the middle the plaza. Just a waste of time to turn around and have to hike back up. Thank you in advance

I was in line for the tram and some snowboarder prick (I know it was just him and not all snowboarders) thought it was funny to stop and act like he was doing something to hold the line up almost the full length of one of the rows in the line. He did it like 3 times so he was obviously trying to be a prick. He just kept looking back as if he was waiting to start something with someone. My friend and I almost jumped the guy and his buddies -- it was an act of god that we found the tolerance and didn't let him get us kicked out. There seem to be alot of assholes in line for the tram. That being said -- there are an aweful lot more cool people.

Huh - even though I almost got into a fist fight with a little Bro-Brah in the Tram line last year I would still rather be waiting in that line than any other line anywhere. With the previously noted glaring exception I try to kill people with kindness, and ignore the bleating sheep. In my experience the folks looking out the Front window are the best to hang with, and by the time you hit tower three everyone has a shiteating grin and is picking out their line.

YetiMan: if angry people get under your skin that easily you do not, under any circumstance, want to ride the NYC Subway during Rush Hour.
