    WTF do I do?!!! nsr.

I think this is my first nsr thread in the many years I have been posting.

My neighbor's friend backed into my car a couple nights ago, and ran. We know who did because a piece of their car fell off.
    I got an estimate today
The damage: $1440.00 and five days without a car. My brain: hurting. I am having trouble getting a hold of her because my roommate wants to be the mediator. He doesn't want me to make bad relations with the neighbor. I might get her insurance info tonight? I am soo frustrated right now. I kind of want to call the cops, but then my roommate reminds me that it would then take months to get it fixed. I would like to get it fixed quickly since the crash bar could be bent.
    help.

Im' not sure why it would take months to get fixed... and who knows- if you confront the neighbor (and their friend) about it, the perp might admit they did it... especially if they have some damage done to their car. You can always do the rental car thing while your car is getting fixed- then once you settle things with the friend, have them or their insurance pay for that.

Go get your money. Go over there and show your neighbor the peice of their car and either they go to the bank and get you the cash, not a check, or you call the cops, simple as that.

fuck em', call the cops, file a hit and run. You have her license plate #, and the piece of her car as evidence? or you can threaten this action, if they don't act on this immediately.
Whoa, what you gotta say?? Whoa, girls turn 18 every day!!!

I want to do this but it might screw the "good relations" with the neighbor and I'll have to move out. Oh, while we're at it: Anyone got an available couch? I am so frustrated I don't even want to go skiing. How sad is that?

    Call the cops.

I tried being the nice guy when a girl backed into my car a couple of years ago. She gave me a sob story and said she would pay, but didn't want her insurance in on it. So she gave me a couple hundred bucks but never made good on her promises to pay the rest.

Whoever hit your car gave up all their rights to you being the nice guy when they didn't tell you what happened, right when it happened.

Getting a rental car is not always a good idea. Be sure and check your coverage and the at faults coverage as you can end up with a bill for a rental car.

If they are being less than forthright politely give them 24 hours and then go to the police and file a report.

Go to the police. It will make it much easier to deal with the insurance companies if you've filed a police report. Screw neighborly relations.

If that doesn't work, take her on Judge Judy.

Seems as if the neighbor already destroyed relations. Call the cops, running was a dick move. Go skiing.

I called the cops in a similar situation. They wouldn't do shit because I had not positively id'd the driver when the accident occurred. They said anyone could have been driving the car.

Sounds like you haven't laid it all out for us just yet. why the hell would not having good relations with your neighbour mean you "have to move out"? That sounds ricockulous. Why's your roomate such a pussy? If your neighbour gets mad at you for calling out his lawbreaking friend, who gives a shit what they think? Do you know the name of the perp and license # of their car?

You'll need the police report more than likely for the insurance claim..... Give them a call and hide your stash.
xkyzero, thats a bunch of bull if you knew what car it was, they have insurance on the vehicle, not just the driver.

Exactly... if you're "destroying relations" by not getting your car fixed because of their friends' accident, it sounds like your neighbors aren't the kind of people you want to be friends with anyways. Do what needs to be done, call the police, talk to their friends, etc.

Call the cops. You are going to need a police report to file on any insurance, yours or hers. She did the damage, she should pay. Anyone that runs away from something like this should be thrown in jail. You should have called the police right away but they still need to come out and take your complaint.

Call the cops. If they cared about good neighborly relations they wouldn't have stuck you with a wrecked car and $1400 bill. Besides the same thing happened to me, and I went about it slowly trying to be cool. By the time things were over my neighbor was denying they did it, said I couldn't prove it (but they knew they were responsible), and they were right... but if I had the called the cops earlier everything would have been cool and the a-hole neighbor would have been held responsible, since there was evidence that ended up getting cleaned away. Call the cops. F-relations.

Calling the cops should be an option once others have been exhausted. If your roomy is concerned about hurting neighbor relations, calling cops first will be a great way to accomplish exactly that.

Knock on the door with the piece of their car and the estimate in your hand. "Does this belong to you?" or some other wise ass remark will be fine. Offer him the chance to cut you a check for the full amount of the repairs to avoid insurance. If they say no, get insurance involved. If they resist this, THEN call the cops. I was involved in a similar situation years ago, except I was the douchebag that backed a truck into my neighbors car, insurance avoided, everyone happy.

Go talk to the neighbor. Bring a picture of the broken off piece of the car that is in your posession with you. Also bring the repair estimate. Neighborly relations? Give them 45 minutes to go to the bank, withdraw the full amount, and return it to you immediately - saving them the hit and run charge and the insurance hike that they'll get slapped with if they don't comply with your reasonable neighborly request without incident.
