    Chicago Mags - Need Info

Ok, long story short, my girlfriend is going to be on the Oprah show next Thursday . So they are flying us all expenses to Chicago Tuesday and back to the SLC on Thursday night. She is going to be spending all day Wednesday getting makeovers, new clothes, etc..
So while she is doing that I want to do a little sightseeing. My past Chicago experiences have been getting off the plane and taking the el straight to Wrigley to see my beloved Cubs. So if you had a day to kill in the Windy City. How would you spend it?
    Thanks in advance.

If I were you, I'd spend it looking for a new girlfriend. Your sorry ass won't be good enough once Oprah's done filling her head with empowerment bullshit.

Good Point, wonder if my return ticket will still be good after the show is taped?

No way man. That is one story that needs to be longer.

Oh, and this thread is useless without pictures before (and after) the makeover.

For you, may I insist that you have an "italian beef" sandwich. Ideally from Mr. Beef on Orleans st.

Also a "Francheezie" hotdog is an essential item.

Depends what you like to do. For tourist crap, go down to the loop, take the eleveator to the top of the sears tower/john hancock and just wander around the lake/navy pier. you could go to the shedd aquarium/science & industry/field museum area. go up north halstead (haltead and belmont area) to poke into the smaller local shops. there's a really good record store called reckless records on north broadway. there's an awesome vegetarian restaurant called the chicago diner on north halsted. go eat at gino's pizza or pizzeria uno's. there's lots of good bars. the cobra lounge is a pretty nice bar run by punk rockers with a good punk rock jukebox, but it's a ways away from anything else. check and see if there's a bulls or blackhawks game that night. there's endless amounts of shit to do in chicago.

Shed Aquarium, Science and industry Museum are both worth seeing. Hit up the Sears Tower for great view of the city. Take a walk down Madison Ave.

That's more than enough to do until the bars open. So many great taverns to choose from in Chitown!

the museums downtown are some of the best in the country and a couple very noteworthy- i'd make a point to see the Art Institute & Field Museum. The Shedd is a pretty amazing aquarium.

    Expensive but awesome restaurant- Thyme.

Millenium Park & Grant Park are interesting; I always enjoyed Michigan Avenue during the Holidays. check out Marshall Fields (now macys ) as they have incredible holiday displays and have been a tradition for over 100 years.

And you can always take the elevator up to the top of the Hancock Tower for cocktails.

Duuuude....the Oprah show is filmed about 8 blocks from me. Depending on where you're staying and what my schedule looks like I might be able to show you around. Just pray for it to warm up. Friggin high of -4 here today with the windchill.

I live right next to Navy Pier and there is no reason to go there unless you want to be battered by the wind and cold and want to see a bunch of tourons. I second the museums that Squirrel noted. The Art Institute is otherworldly and could be an entire day on its own. Its proximity to the Field and Shedd will make for a great day. Make sure to go through Millenium Park though between the museum visits.

It was rainy and pretty nasty when I left last night to come back to denver. Remember though, it will always be a few degrees warmer by the lake than say west of Michigan ave.

Oh, and let me say this with gusto. Go to Manny's and get some pastrami, corned beef, or both

    It is the bomb.

    Have a good trip, telee.
Another option would be gyros from Greektown Gyros on Halstead and Jackson.
I third the Art Institute recommendation. I think they have good eats inside the museum as well.
