Vol. 29, No. 3 Great White Cluster

It's almost here, close enough that I can taste it. My very own little BC odyssey. In 4 days I board a plane to Calgary then rent a car and head into the mountians. Since Powder published it's November 2000 issue I have been dreaming about the interior of British Columbia.

Last year I was out voted amoung friends and hit up Whistler. The winter before I couldn't pass up the deal on a trip to Austria. Before that as a poor student I couldn't even muster 2 ski days here in Ontario. Now I have two weeks vacation to satisfy my mountain jones. The souther interior will be the crack to my skiing addiction that has developed. No more waiting for gapper friends, no easier runs cause buddies girl friend can't keep up. This will be my own search for steeps and deep, first chairs, and skiing bell to bell.

It's a little late but I have to thank the editors of the November 2000 issue of Powder for fueling my own "Great White Cluster" dream. This issue has been read and oggled 10,000 times. Plans so far are to hit Fernie, Golden, Whitewater, and Red. Due to a recent influx of overtime I will also be able to sign up stand by for some cat skiing. I am new to the Maggotdom but wanted to share my stoke.

    Damn! Can I come?

That sounds pretty sweet. I think I might be taking a trip to Red later this winter.

Nice Shirk! That's a classic issue.

I pulled it out (the magazine) when researching a quick Fernie trip (my first B.C. interior trip) last spring. I'd been to Whistler a couple of times, but not the interior.

Alas, Idaho got the better of me. Must get back one of these days. Enjoy the trip.

Shirk - If you have touring gear I can show you the deepest touring stashes that powder doesn't know about.
    You are what you eat.

Shirk...if you're around the weekend of the 5th Karl Stall, myself and a gang of indignets will be at Retallack Alpine Adventures for 3 days of cat aided flotation in the pillows of love. If you're gonna go standby give it a thought. That issue created what is now an annual pilgrimage to "mecca" and is hands down my favorite issue as well. Git some!

Beaver - If I can rent touring gear out there I would love to hook up.

Truth - I fly out on the 6th from Calgary, y'all need to bump up that date

One the topic of cat skiing out of Nelson, does anyone have opinions of one over the others. Are some better for stand-by than others?
