Low Light oakley A frame lens

errr... the High Intensity Lens (ie HI Yellow) IS for low light days... and I highly recommend them for severely overcast / storm days: they bring out detail in flat light conditions and let you see stuff that would otherwise be a surprise.

Check here and clarify what you need.

Sorry, don't have an extra one, but the persimmon works well for me on storm/low light days.

I have the HI yellow and it's too light for me. I would only use it for night skiing, but I think my eyes are quite light-sensitive.

I use the blue iridium on medium days and the fire on bluebird days.

I'll second that. I had Smith's version of the H.I. lens and it was unbearable for me. The Persimmon is great for low-light/storm days and won't cause permanent damage should the sun come out.

I'm gonna have to go against bag and whorehey here and reinforce the reco for the HI lens here in the east. I think due to elevation, our greybird days are a lot flatter in terms of light, so it's not as big an issue. I wouldn't recommend using it for most westside days though.

I second Schuss. The HI yellow lens in my A-Frames is my go-to for about 75-80% of the time I ride in the Mid-Atlantic. About the only thing I don't like about it is the ghost images it creates for night skiing, but I very rarely night ski.

Soul or Jorge - either of you want to trade your HI Yellow? I've a got a bunch of A frame lens's (GF and both girls rock A Frames) all in near new condition - pretty sure I've got a persimmon or vr50 thats not being used and I need a HI Yellow... GF always steals my HI Yellow Crowbars when the light goes flat.

Still, it's worth the money to have it for the east. I refuse to even ski on flat light days if I forgot my HI's now. I like being able to see bumps and terrain changes.

FlatNShall: Sounds like Soulskier only has the FIRE lens. That's why he looking for a low light lens.

As for the trade with me, I will think about it, and reply back in this thread later. I might decide to hold onto the lens for DP's.

Both the VR50 and persimmon lenses that you have are clear, non-mirrored, correct?

Maybe we could do a trade and then SoulSkier could buy my goggles with the persimmon or VR50 lens for a good price.

I love my HI Persimmons for all but the sunniest of days. They are sufficient for mostly sunny days and are nice to have on when a cloud moves through or you duck into the trees. They also kick ass in very low/flat light conditions. I've even put them on while driving in a complete white out and was amazed at how much more I could see. I wouldn't have been able to find the road or other cars without them on. Just my .02

I like the HI yellow/blue until about March. Then the VR50 is the tricket for low light. I use VR28 for mild sun and mirrored Mirrored VR28 for intense sun.

I really don't like too dark of lens <20% transmission for anything. I need a lot of light to see.

Is the HI Yellow the same as what they used to call HI Blue (everything looks yellow)? The HI Blue that I have works great in low light, flat, night, etc conditions.

They're the same thing. As far as I know Oakley only makes High Intensity lenses in Yellow and Persimmon. I've seen some goggles advertised as HI Blue or HI Amber, but they look the same as the Yellow and Persimmons, respectively.

To add to the "personal preference" debate: I run Prodigy's with Sensor Mirrors in most types of weather except sunny days, where I switch to a reflective blue lens with about 30% light transmission. Sensor Mirror is comparable to the HI Yellow from Oakley. Best lens I've ever owned hands down. You'll definetely experience extra brightness in direct sunlight, but with partial cloudiness it's fine, and clutch in low light conditions. I usually keep the spare lens in my pack because it only takes about 30 seconds to switch them.

Maybe a bit off topic, but people are active and its relevant...

I got the fire and the persimmon, and I need a lens for bad conditions AND night practices where there will be bright spotlights everywhere... HI Yellow would have been perfect if it had only been flatlight, but I can imagine that HI and strong spotslight might kill my eyes...

Instead of the HI Y. I'm thinking Clear or VR28... What do you say?
I am of course sick of my persimmons for theses conditions, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered... The swedish conditions shouldn't be underestimated!

VR28 is a dark lens. Darker than persimmon. Get clear for night.

I have those as well. They are downright dangerous in flat light. I hit a mogul field that I couldn't see at high speed last year, resulting in a minor concussion. I bought the smith prodigy with the sensor mirror lens, which people here seem to think is equivalent to or better than the HI Yellow from oakley.
