    Atomic 10-18 brake bending tips please

    I just picked up a pair of 10-18's super cheap and now I need to bend the brakes out.

    I've bent rossi and sally brakes but these are a bit different. There isn't much brake arm exposed to put in a vice. Does anyone know any tricks? Can I remove the arms from the plate they're mounted on?

    I did a search and, although this has been asked before it hasn't been answered. And I don't want to buy wide brakes because that would screw my cheap deal.

    Boot in binding. Click. Old ski pole over brake arm. Bendy. Chunk of dowel between ski and upper brake arm. Bendy. Done.

    Rinse. Repeat.

    Sorry if this doesn't work in yer situ. Mostly it does, but cannot speak for those binders. Good luck.

    Thanks, but the bindings aren't on a ski yet. I want to straighten them now in preparation of going on a ski in the future. Once they're staight the second bend will be easy.

    Sorry, but it's going to be difficult. I've tried a lot and managed to break two pairs while bending one pair to fit a ski like 10mm wider than what they fit out of the box (assuming you have the BigDaddy brakes allready - they say 107 but fit up to 120). Those brake arms are pretty heavyly hardened I think, at least the wide ones. I haven't tried to bend other brakes for those bindings; but I know that my race/cross brakes are made of a different type of metal and may bend easier.

    These bindings sound more similar to your race bindings, thank god! They're red with 'race 10:18' written down the side. Although, having said that, the metal of the arms does look pretty gnarly.

    The actual binders are the same. I have a bunch of different design ones (Ride1018, Race1018 and SX1018) that I move around and combine as I want. One tip if you've got a good Atomic connection: order some wider brakes/baseplates from the Ride series and make sure to the front plate included as the Ride series are higher than the race ones. Also get the higher underfoot AFD/connector piece. Then you can avoid the whole brake bending thing. Alternatively go looking for some Ride/Race/SX614 bindings frem the last few years - those sell cheap as they prerelease a lot (plastic crap, that's what's so great about the metal 1018) but the base plates are the same. Baseplates from the 412 series work too, though those only have 3 positions for the longitudinal adjustment feature whereas the 614 and 1018 have 5.

    Ah, interesting. I've never used atomic bindings before, so this is money. I still want to do the bendy thing first as I've got nothing to lose. The brakes are for an 85mm ski or something, which I'll prob never use, but it's great to have an informed plan b and an educated plan c.
