"I'm all about compensating lack of skill with technology but that's nuts."

Yup, I hear that. But I'm also compensating for lack of new equipment in over 15 years.

Up until 2 seasons ago I was on 198 piss yellow Rossi 7S's. Then my ancient San Marco boots split in half in the Boulder parking lot @ Heavenly. Since nobody would rent me boots to go with my indemnified 747 bindings, I was forced to finally try new skis. Haven't looked back since.

Last season I ponied up on:
    180 AK No Ka Oi
    176 Armada AR5
    175 Blizzard Titan 8
    177 Karma
    177 Mantra

Looking to unload the AR5's this season

    So far this season:
186 Spats (will mount with the Sally 912's from my AR5's)

    Looking to also grab:
    175 M:EX
    181 Titan 9
    185 Sick Bird
also go my eyes on the Bros...prolly a 179 soft, but might have to try a 188 just to see if I'm "man" enough.

    ^^^^Mikey!
How you like those 185 Scratches (noticed that you're also on a 174 Seth, so you've skied short and longish).

    Made a few changes!

    Bought:

-170cm SX10 w/ atomic bindings (everyday east skis)
-188cm Nordica Beasts (PX12) (everyday west skis)
    -174 cm Apache Chief
    -Technica Diable Magma (26.5)

    Sold:
    -Volkl T50 5*
    -174cm Apache Chief

Moving to UT in May and I am going to need to buy a fatter ski before next season.

You mean the recommended gear thread isn't a mandatory shopping list??? Shit.

Until I'm done paying my ex-wife over 4k/month (10 months and counting baby!), I won't have the chance to go to New Zealand or Chile to ski the summer away so I compensated by dropping a few hundred dollars on cheap used skis during the off season. Sure it's a little obsessive, but it beats some of the alternatives by a country mile. I did splurge a bit on the spats and kingswoods, but I also kicked ass at work and got a great bonus.

Then there's the social aspect of trying out skis that have made the "list" here. When a ski gets a lot of love from a group of people as serious and diverse as the maggots then I think it's worth a try, both as a potentially fun addition to my favorite pastime as well as getting an understanding of what characteristics define greatness in our sport. Skis like the Explosiv are an almost universal benchmark here. If you have a chance to pick some up for relatively cheap then it's hard to say no. It's the same for the G4 and G41, and the same for the Spats. If you haven't at least tried them out, then you're missing out on a significant part of TGR's cultural context.

The other part of the cultural context here, of course, are the people and places they love so when the $$$ is a bit more available I'll come and sample some of your favorite mountains too and hopefully we can sample a few beers afterwards. Until then it's my little local hill and my scavenged and rehabilitated skis from e-bay and craigslist and a lot of amazing TGR trip reports to fuel the stoke.

201cm Stockli Stormrider DP - definitely too much for me, but I have to try them

I ahvn't bought anything yet, but I really want the foll0woing,

    My ideal list:

    Deep day ski: lotus 138s

Gunning skis: 194 and 189 B squads, and the 205 superfat ak rockets

Touring somethings, maybe one super lifht pair with dynafits, another littl burlier pair with naxos for sidecountry, i don't really know, and some burly at boots.

In all actuality, I will probably just get something like 4frnt ehp 193s to fill the first two categories, and worryu abotu at setpu later.

So far this year I've bought 193 Volkl Sanouks, 189 K2 Pontoons, and 3 pairs of S916s/977s, and one pair of S900 Carbons. I've also sold, through this board, a pair of 195 Iggy FGSes, a pair of 190 Iggy FFLs, a pair of 189 K2 Kahunas, and now again that same pair of S900 Carbons.

Last season I bought 2 pair of those Iggy FGSes (have since kept 1 and sold 1), 188 K2 AK Enemies, the Kahunas, and an extra pair of Solly XWave 10s. Oh and an extra tranceiver too, BCA Tracker.

Gear Swap's been good to me.
