Mounting Tele Bindings?

I have been able to piece together a rather scrappy tele set-up for the new season, but now come to the point of needing to mount them up.

I did a quick search and came up with nothing. How do i measure and mount these bad boys up.

Ski is a 186 RD Helidog (Essentially an Explosiv) Bindings are Voiles (Thanks Pow4Brains) and boots are scarpas (Thanks LemonBoy).

Any guidance?

The boots are LB's old ones, right... Atleast I have been quite happy by mounting just according to the alpine-boot center (measure the center of the teleboot from pins to the heel)...

Atleast it has worked so far for me (my boots are Mondo 26,5 and 300mm base).

Yeah they are LB's old Scarpas. Sounds simple enough. I'll dig around at T-tips a bit and see what i can find.

Yeah, those guys are really anal about mounting the binding... giving you something like 3 or more options (pins at chord center (or for twintips effective CC), ball of foot at center of running length and naturall according to alpine-boot center).

I used to measure them all, but with my boots the difference is pretty minimal (ie. around 2cm at the max)... So often I either just split the different or mount according to alpine-boot center (I've used that with Stormrider DP's, Big Daddies, M662's and plan on using with Sanouks).

I've mounted about a dozen alpine skis tele over the last 3-4 seasons, and I usually measure all 3 hemas mentions above - pins on chord center [P/CC], Ball of Foot on Center Running Surface [BoF/CRS] and Center Boot on Boot Center Mark [CB/BC]. It's actually pretty easy and quick to do the measurements, if you approximate the BoF at the back end of the bellows rather than doing all that anal foot and shell measuring in the link hemas posted. You can approximate the tele CB at where the shell makes its right angle, a little further aft from the BoF point. Then I voodoo the mount somewhere in-between the most forward and rear measurements, depending on what I expect the ski to be used for, forward for harder pack, back for pow, average of the 3 for all-round. The exception is for low-angle skis (for meadow skipping w/3-pins & low/leather boots) where I go classic P/CC.

In general, it seems that P/CC puts the mount a bit far back, the BoF/CRS a bit far forward and BC/BC can be a tossup depending on where the mfr places the mark. Usually, all 3 measurements are pretty close to each other, but sometimes they aren't. At least it gives you an idea of the range where you ought to be mounting. Someone with a fair amount of experience like Telepath can just voodoo the mount by eye, but I like to take the measurements to get an idea of the range I'm dealing with.

homerjay's 1cm forward of P/CC works pretty well in general, but again can vary depending on the ski and boot size.

I just mounted a pair of Explosivs, and it came out fairly close to the mount Volkl recommends on the side of the ski.

I measured once, drilled three times and plugged all the holes with ptex. The cool thing is I used Drywall screws straight thru which gives me a crampon effect, No skins here! I then took them to the shop, we scrapped the whole heap, and I decided to stay on alpine boards.

My Atomic R:ex's have the pin line on C.C.
Last winter I mounted my Bro's (188 stiffs) with Boot center 7mm behind the alpine mark. When I buy a new pair I'll move the binding back one cm.
My Heli Daddies are mounted B.C. 1.5 cm behind the alpine line.
I'm drilling my Explosives with B.C. on the alpine line, which with my Scarpa size 28 shell is about the same as pins 0.5 cm ahead of C.C..

Basically they're all pretty similar with just small adjustments made according to what I use them for and how they "flex".
