Well, if the season on a whole is a let down I will take the blame. This will be my first full season in Tahoe. And I haven't even moved up yet.....
Go Sharks.
I think I might as well take this season off...
we need onehotchili to start lining up his annual Hawaii trip mid-December - that is always a sure-fire trigger for the nukeage. onehotchili, when you leaving town!?
growing up in vt, skiing before xmas was purely bonus. and in the 7 years i've lived here, the resort skiing has almost always been sub-par pre-xmas. sure, the bc around carson pass and mt rose is usually in somewhat skiable shape but really folks, its not even december yet. one banner early season year and most of you expect it to be the norm. and maybe its all my fault cause i'm kinda on the dl right now and have been praying that we have a late start to the season so i'm not tempted to hurt myself more![]()
thats a beauty pic joe that captures the best turns to be had round these parts right now. that exact spot where kyle is skiing and where the zipper line usually is is where i could barely make out jasurfs tracks and where aka and i found the best turns as well. and i must say that you guys looked to have better turns then we did right there. and on a speculative optimistic note, the way this storm played out, i'll bet there is a leeside of a ridge/shoulder around roundtop or elephants back that may yield some pow turns for those willing to hoof it an hour over the flats. i would if i could but skinning on flat ground is just too painful on my knee.
and thanx for making me feel better about not blowing off work today jasurf.
Historically, skiing at Thanksgiving has always been about 50/50. We've just had some pretty good early snowfall in recent years so people seem to forget. I've been here since 92, not happy about the lack of snow right now but I've seen worse.
One year, probably mid 90s, I biked up Tunnel Creek, around Marlette & up to the rim trail in early December. Finally ran into about an inch of snow as the trail began to climb right by the primitive campground. Awesome surreal ride, getting fresh bike tracks. It stormed shortly thereafter but rained to the very top. I did the same ride less than a week later and there was zero snow anywhere.
At least we got something right now. Meager yes, but it does look wintery out there.

Sure as hell feels wintry too, it's 30 degrees in San Francisco...cmon, let's get a real storm and build a real jump on Fillmore street, none of that ice thrown in a wood chipper crap.....

I should be up by early afternoon Saturday, unless work keeps me here. I'll definitely be there on Sunday. I'll have my three kids with me, I'll be wearing a black Bern helmet, and I'll respond to requests for change (and may even issue some myself).
Woo, if you do come up to Alpine, whydoncha bring the Big Stix and I'll bring the bourbon?
