    Pocket Rocket Mount Position

Couldn't find anything recent wuth search, so here it goes.

My wife has some 05/06 165 PRs mounted at the line. She doesn't ride park at all, just all mountain when there is about 4+ cms of new snow. The regular mount position is a long way forward and she notices quite a bit of tip dive when the pow gets deeper. I was thinking of re-mounting them at -3cm from the line. She is a little worried about changing the balance of the ski for hardpack and crud performance. Any suggestions or prior experience would be appreciated.

I had my 175s mounted on the line and basically didn't know how to ski (until this year with new boots). I went from a 315 boot to a 303 boot, effectively moving the mount point 0.6 cm forward. I skied them in some soft windcrusted snow one day and had to lean WAY the fuck back to stay afloat. Z remounted for me (thanks, man ) at 1.5 cm back from the line (a 2.1 cm move), and they ski dramatically better.

I don't know about a full 3 cm, but my experience at 1.5 back is tremendously better than at 0 or particularly .6 forward. I haven't skied them in anything soft since the remount, but I have definitely noticed an increase in hardpack performance and having to lean back a little less in bumps.

I am 165 lbs 5'8" and ski semi-aggressively. Somewhere between gaper and rockstar.

Hopefully someone has some more experience with mounts further back.

I have no idea whether or not they tweaked the line (or added a second) over the years, but I recall a few years ago there seemed to be two "rules of thumb" for PR mounting for general powder & non-park skiing:

    a) 2 cm back
    or
    b) 1 cm back for the 165; 2 cm back for the 175; 3 cm back for the 185

A couple shop folks I talked with at the time claimed they had checked with Salomon & that "b" was pretty much blessed as a good way to go... I skied them mounted both with rule "b" and center - and there was noticeably less dive with mounting a bit back. Performance change was noticeable, but not dramatic.

    That seems right to me.

I have the first gen 185's and they are so worked now after all these years that they float great on-the-line. The tips are uber soft and easily stay up for me...

I remember getting some dive when they were new!

There's a mounting thread around here somewhere. I remounted my 175s 2cm back and they're much much better.
If you have a problem & think that someone else is going to solve it for you then you have two problems.

thanks for the feedback guys. Sounds like 3 cm may be a little drastic. I think we will go with the 1 cm to 1.5 cm as suggested.
