    Outdoor Research Mithril Stormshell?

    Anyone have one of these?

Mrs Brit has her eye on one.

Zero help....but I was wondering the same thing for the mrs. Curious as to the quality in general of OR gear as well.

Personally, OR Gear copies really nice designs, just not as nice as the original. The Mithril is very similiar to MH's Synchro jacket. The difference in quality can be seen in how the tape wanders on the seam.

If Eider, Arteryx are 1st tier
Marmot, MH, TNF are 2nd Tier
    Then OR is tier 2.5
    Columbia/ etc tier 3

Good info...thanks. Thats about where I expected it to fall in line having not owned any OR Gear. That said, it seems as though there are some pretty good buys on OR gear to be found out there. As long as you're only relying on it for recreational purposes.

Yeah, its not that its bad stuff. It is solid, its just not as refined. On arcteryx you can't find where one spool ran out and they started another (word is, they respool the thread for every piece so it doesn't run out) On other brands you can find the knots where they switched thread.

If its a good price, I'd say go for it.

Disagree. Some things they make (gloves, gaiters, other accessories) are the best products out there. How long have you had your crocodiles? They're relatively new to the clothing game. I have two friends with that softshell and they both love it. OR's warranty/cust svc is top notch as well.

(my good friend used to be their sales rep, but I swear I'm not biased)

Ms. Telechuck has one and loves it. It may be a bit warm for the PNW though. It doesn't have pit zips and runs towards the more element proof side vs. breathable. For resort skiing, it would rule. BC, it may be a bit warm.

I will also disagree with those knocking OR quality. I have gloves and accessories that are bomber. I also have a Zero Jacket and along with the Ms's Mithral, I see no problems in quality.

Thanks - she's looking for a soft/hardshell for resort use so it's probably going to work.

Agree that OR gaitors, gloves, hats etc. are top quality but I've never tried their clothing.

A trip to their factory-outlet by Safeco is on my schedule for next week
