Freeride size range

The medium Freeride has a size range of 280-330mm. I've been getting some mixed messages as to whether it's a bad idea to ride them with a smaller boot in the 285mm range. When they are cranked down to the minimum size like this, is there more torsional play in the binding? Does it put more stress on the binding? Can anybody comment on this?

It's generally thought that the small is better (less weight), but obviously if you get a different boot, ensure the new one is not out of the range. Try the search function, this issue has been beaten to death.

i have a 287mm bsl and use medium freerides, no issues that i see.

no issues perse, but you can generally get the small rail for cheaper, and it has a smaller footprint on the ski (good thing).

I did some very basic physics in school today(yes, I was that bored) about this. I came to conclusion that using the larger size instead of the smaller one is like adding about 20% to your body weight. Ex: I weigh a 135 pounds and have a 290mm bootsole length, and ski on medium freerides, but I just bought a pair of smalls. If I ski like a 135 pounds person on the smalls, then the force I exert on the mediums is about 20% more, meaning I ski like someone around 165 pounds. I bet Pelchelman could do this in a lot more accurate and detailed way, but I think I got a decent ballpark range. IMO, this makes sizing down a very good idea.
