    Softer boots.

I'm currently skiing a Salomon Performa 9 Race and would like to go to a more comfortable, softer flexing boot.
Can these get reworked (I've read about "softening" boots) or should I start over with a new pair?
    I'm 6'-200lbs (wide foot) so strength isn't a problem.
Skills, on the other hand, are questionable.

start with softening the boots you have.
First, get a booster strap, makes it easier for the whole shell to flex with your leg.
Second, reversible step- take out the back rivets in the boot. Still allows for proper flex characteristics, but definately gives the boot more give. This should be sufficient. If not, take the liner out of your boots. You should see a variety of dotted lines running along the cuff of the inside of the boot. Yup, you guessed it, cut here. Start with trimming the material below your second buckle to allow for more unhindered flex. Go to a bootfitter though, once you cut, you can never get it back. 1. Booster, 2. Rivets. try this and come back to us. That is a "firm" boot. It is not balls stiff and surely not too stiff for your weight unless you're a park skier.

Remove the liner from the shell. you can cut out a small triangle on the back cuff of the shell to soften it, but like 300hp said, you may be better off just going to a bootfitter.

try the power strap around the liner only, not the shell, should make it 10-20% softer...

rontele: you cut the "V" notch on the back of the shell me thinks..

if you do decide to cut the v out of the back ( I did on my plugs) it is really easy to do. start with the small v first. Heat the shell up with a heat gun, it will get really soft. then use a razor blaze and it should slice through really easy and give you a precise cut every time.

shell might have dotted lines on the back.

make a V that is 2-3cm wide and 5cm deep. drill a 5mm hole at the bottom of the "V" to prevent cracking.

or pay a boot fitter $30 and get it done right...

or try the power strap idea for free and it is reversable...

if you don't know what your doin... I wouldn't mess with the liner... like cutting it and stuff.... definatly go to a pro to get the mods done... or just try a softer boot......
