    Agreed. Not spoiled.

I don't like to ski hardpack. Maybe on spring days or as an alternative to something I'd rather not do... but LOVE to ski powder... "Duh" you say?

IF I was brought up skiing on the wrong coast, I probably would rip and not make such a distinction in skiing conditions because I learned to ski proficiently with regard to technical ability, edging control, whatever....

BUT I wasn't. I was brought up skiing powder. I'm good at it. I'm not good at skiing hardpack and sure don't mind keeping it that way.

I'm definetly not as good of a well-rounded skier as many of my EC transplant buddies who grew up shredding the ice of the east, but I'm a much better powder skier than them... with a couple of exceptions. I'm going to find soft snow, ski backcountry, bitch about liftlines, bitch about ice, and be generally pissy unless the skiing meets my standards. Fuck off if you don't like my attitude or that of others who see eye-to-eye with me.

    Now for the disclaimers:

-this post is not pointed at anyone in general, 'cept my EC skiing roomie who always skis any snow - no matter what it is...

-I'm not saying you aren't a powder ripping skier in the EC...

-I'm not saying you can't grow up in CO like me (or UT, CA wherever) and know how to rip icy, shitty, awesome, whatever conditions anytime anywhere... I just don't give a shit

Anyway, carry-on, rock-on, and eat my ass. CO is Boner City.

We are spoiled because we can be. If you like skiing ice stay in the East. Ice is for cocktails. Period. Powder is for skiing. We live in the Rockies because we like to ski powder. When its icy we drink. Quit whining about us bitching.

Or ski at Keystone like I did yesterday. Freaking unbelievable. After lunch the instructor asked for requests on terrain. I asked for anything ungroomed and NOBODY else wanted to go. This was a powder day, people. They didn't want to ruin their brand new 6 star Volkls. Or whatever it is they ski on. Grrrrrrrrr. I swear there are epic skiers that spend their entire lives on packed out snow. And I know it's not neccessary, I was able to take my kids into the woods right away last year, as soon as they could wedge and turn and they loved it much better than skiing the groomage. Although I did ski with them on groomers to teach them to parallel and ski REALLY FAST. Not dumping all their speed with every turn.

I am learning all the intricacies of my edges though. How to ski Right.

dont you know SheRa you can only make "perfect turns" on groomed snow on Volkl 6 stars any other skiing is for looney tunes.

Actual I am glad someone like you is teaching and putting up with all the BS, the kids are better of in the long run.

Also I suggest a move to Utah were are clinics are off-piste whenever possiable.

I used to know this woman that moved to Vail to ski, but didn't ski that much because she "couldn't find people to ski with". Then she bought a place in Avon & became an instructor at the Beav. I kept telling her to buy some powder skis, but she wants a pair of CARVING skis ,because her instructor buddies say they're great & because she says their aren't that many powder days .WTF????

Naturally I had to stop associating with such types.

When I was a racer (yeah, I used to wear a body condom almost daily), we used to make fun of how slow all the psiaa types skied, looking for that perfect carve, scrubbing so much speed through the carve they weren't getting any energy back out of their skis. It's funny though, thinking about it, with some of the crap I've seen in Summit the last few years, I might be making a better carve on my Gotamas. Keep it up though, you might learn something.

Not to get into this too heavily because it's so embarassing, but we had one guy in the group, 20something, just got full cert in New Zealand, which is the toughest place of all - anyway, this guy has some slalom skis and was throwing down some really pretty turns and so fast. He was able to swing across me with big arcs and stay easily ahead. Just like all the little kids on the Loveland race team.

Anyway, the instructor - 60something year old fart, tells him he's skiing wrong and not to push off on the outside of his turns like he was doing. That he was putting in far too much effort. If I hadn't stood there to witness it, I would never ever have believed it.

Now back to your regularly scheduled programming - Tomorrow I'm going to to ski cold deep woods on my spats and then I'm going to ski inbounds at Loveland and get used to my new bros. Life is good.

"NUNCA se dice esos con rojo?" Como?

Rojo/a es usado frecuentamente como ajectivo:

Think the net on this "colorado" thing is it does sorta mean red at least in some cases.

emailed a friend who was spanish major, is trully fluent, and has travelled for months at a time in Mex, Central Am, S America and lived in Costa Rica for 2 yrs - her take was it is regional. For the most part she thinks rojo is red and colorado is colored/colorful, but has heard it used for redish thing - ala salsa colorada.

    I'm calling it a draw.

And I"m not bitchin about Colo Conditions at all...

Reminds me of the time I was at magic with a bunch of snowboard patrollers. we skied one run on the ungroomed 8-12" of east coast powder, with nothing under it.

oh the bitching about I hit something after that run. one or two of us just had a blast. Riding up the lift the young kid in the class was swaking about hitting something. I said it only the base it can be fixed with a little petex. That's why they make petex. He says to me "I have to buy my own equipment I respect it" I was dumb founded. I have been buying my own equipment for 15 years.

So we when back to groomers. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr I hate groomers. It was billed as a bumps, trees and steeps snowboard clinic.

Run-off is going to be sick !
