He's right. The state of Colorado is named for the Colorado river, which is Spanish for 'red', the color of the river in the Grand Canyon before they built the dams.

The Colorado river is 'red' in Spanish

Brilliant, but as it turned out, I didn't have to after all. A true leader knows how to delegate authority.

it is still that same color when the water is smooth enough to reflect the red sandstone canyon walls. Oddly those insidious dams did not change the color of the water or the canyon wall. in effect they created larger bodies of water to reflect the canyon's reddish hue.

It's the silt that makes the water red.

Yes people who are Colorado natives have little idea how spoiled they are weather-wise and for some reason are offended when you let them know their "colorful" state is really a brown desert (at least around denver).

was the "colorful" in the previous post referring incorrectly to "colorado" as meaning "colorful?" or was he correctly recalling that "colorful colorado" was at one time one of colorado's nicknames and used to appear on colorado license plates?

    also,

hey guys sorry about the grammer.
I typed that at 530 am and my contacts were not working yet.

I was on the top of escaltor at 830am , there are tons of racers here so i got to snag and early chair. It was windy as hell.. the chair closed because of high winds today. The woods off bittersweet was amazing ( for me ) i was hitting almost knee deep spots every other turn.

I grew up skiing in NE PA. at Blue Mountain for years.

as for the snow, yes its still coming down hard, and tomorrow is going to be amazing.

    hope thats better typing-

All skis are rock skis. Why resist the temptation to take out the skis you are most stoked on, especially when you hit rocks all year in Summit County anyway? I am a little bummed though. Oh well.

Sorry on the Colorado thing - but it is NOT "red" in Spanish.

    Rojo is red in Spanish.

    Colorado is "Colored" in Spanish.

I was going to say " I agree with Tipster, simply cuz he smarter than you nucka...." but then I realized 5th gradas is smarta than you fool-

    Colorado

I, Susan, chose Colorado for my state report because I wanted to know why it is so popular. In the World Book Encyclopedia, I found many of the answers to questions I had about Colorado. Now I know if I visit Colorado I will need to pack a camera. The following are things I would photograph if I visit Colorado.

    The State Flag

The state flag of Colorado has two blue stripes and a white stripe in the middle. The stripes are covered with a large red letter C. The inside of the C is filled in with yellow.

    The State Bird

The Colorado state bird is a Lark Bunting. It is mostly black with white decorations on the wings.

    The State Flower

The flower of Colorado is a Rocky Mountain Columbine. It is two shades of lavender.

    The State Tree

The state tree is a Blue Spruce, which doesn't drop leaves in the Fall.

    The State Capitol

The capitol of Colorado is Denver. Denver is a very busy city and has many people living in it.

    Information about Colorado

Colorado has many mountains. In fact, it is surrounded by mountain ranges. Colorado is also one of the four corner states. The four corner states are Utah, Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico. If you stand in the middle you will be in all four states at once. Colorado is such a popular state because people like to ski there. One of the most famous places to ski is in Aspen, which is located in Colorado. Denver is a nice city to look at during the night because it has many lights which are very beautiful. The ski is very blue with white clounds in Colorado. The Square Tower House in Mesa Verde National Park is part of a housing complex built by prehistoric cliff dwellers. It is a popular place for tourists to visit.

    The Weather

In Colorado, the summer weather is mild and cool. During the winter there is a lot of white powdery snow. This makes Colorado a place where people would like to visit all year round.

    Economy of Colorado

The economy of Colorado consists of mining, farming and raising cattle. The minerals that are mined in Colorado include gold, silver, and petroleum. Potatoes, sugar, wheat, and corn fields cover a large part of Colorado. Despite all of this agricultural activity, the leader in Colorado's economy is raising beef cattle. There are many mountains and plains in Colorado where the cattle are left to graze.

    Meaning of Colorado

Colorado is a Spanish word meaning red. Colorado was originally named because of the Colorado River which flows through canyons of red stone. The red stone often turns the river red, and that is the reason for the name Colorado.

    Statehood

Colorado became a state August 1, 1876. This made Colorado the 38th state in the United States.

babelfish says colorado = colorful although I have heard the "I was taught it meant red" explanation, too. Either one seems better than the origin of the name Idaho.

And I was referring to the state nickname earlier if there was any confusion on that.

I wish we could ski the ice. not so much fun on the board. but I love skiing in the icy.
Some of my best alpine days are when it rains all night and drop below freeze 1 hr before the lifts open. Oh wait that the only time I bring out the alpine any more.

Soon we are going to be down to skiing in wet grass. trust me I will if there nothing open on t-day weekend.

No that was K-mart. but I do patrol at Wa Wa. Okay for after work turns. Better then sitting on the couch.

Great for teaching people to ski too.

We have not gotten that much snow here in the flat lands.

I grew up skiing in the west. Even still, I'm stoked for EVERY day I ski (unless I lose a ski and have to look for it for several hours or something, then that kinda sucks).

We are indeed spoiled. It's ok to be spoiled. Just don't let it keep you from skiing.

de dónde sacaste esa pendejada, rojo y colorado son dos palabras que significan lo mismo, es decir "red," en inglés. "coloreado" puede decir "colored" pero principalmente en el sentido de coloreado con crayolas. Babelfish is full of shit, fish shit i guess.
