Going for it! (Job & life related)

Well, I am fed up with my job and have been for a couple years now. High stress, and high $ responsibilities. Yeah, the perks are good and what I've learned here has been immeasurable, but the people I work with are either incompetent, have no balls, or just fucking suck. The place is run by a bigoted, bipolar, fucking mean old 73 yr old man who rules with an iron fist and is just a miser. He is a legend in the biz, and I am thankful for what he has taught me, but I just can't bear it anymore. My overall mental and physical health has deteriorated over the last couple years and it's time to make a change. So, after 4 1/2 years, it's time to move on!

I have secured another job at a better (smaller) place with huge promise. I'm going to be the #2 guy of a newly created commercial division that hopes to triple the company's total sales over the next 3 years. The people I will be working for are fair, easy going, and just plain rock!

Here's the good part....The new company cannot take me on until just after New Years, so for the month of December I'm moving to Maui!!!!! Yeah, I know, start of ski season, but it really doesn't get THAT good until after the New Year anyway....(trying to convince myself of this so please refrain from telling me otherwise ).

Two of my buddies bought a couple houses in Pookalani, Maui a year or so back and have been renovating them. They finished one and are now onto the next. I will be helping them with framing a new story and putting on a new roof plus various other things. I will be living rent free and helping some tight brothers with free labor....Fuck, I can't wait!!!

Time to relax, unwind, clear my head, and swing a hammer to get my "self" back.....

Congratulations, Sean, that's going to be an absolutely epic month and give you time to just feel good and get ready to kick ass at your new job, while spending quality time with your bros doing something fun and worthwhile.

    Way to go Seany!!!!
I love hearing about big changes like this! I remember you talking about this 73yr old grump and rationalizing it with the access to the sailboat bit! We all do it! But good for you for taking the leap!!
As for Maui...that is sweet!!! Be sure to get scuba certified while you're out there. It's cheap and fun. Also, you'll be there for the start of surf season. And by the time you get back, you'll have a rad tan and the snow will be plentiful!

    Wise words.

    Thanks for the replies all!

Shit, I'm all giddy about this. Once you make up your mind and decide to go for it, it seems like nothing else matters. I can feel the tension dissipating from my neck and shoulders as we speak!

Snowtigress, I already am SCUBA certified so even better. Just finished my Rescue Diver cert a couple months back too. I will be taking the fellas diving for sure.

Kick ass dude. That sounds like the perfect way to unwind. You better get out to UT sometime this season...and if you've already given notice...why not come party in LA?

Good move , sounds like you waited a few years to long. Don't wait for payday. If if throws you out with out compensation you have a great excuse to go to the labor board. They are ruthless in California.

    I was thinking Baskin-Robbins.

Theodore- just bringing the necessities. Clothes, trunks, boots, toiletries, a couple tools, tent and my sleeping bag. It will all easily fit in my luggage. I might camp on the beach for a week of my stay there. The local authorities have no problems with people squatting on certain beaches. They all have outdoor showers, toilets, and faucets so it's easily doable.

My brother is holding down the fort in SF and we plan on moving to another neighborhood when I get back.

Well, things took a turn for the worst and then I was shocked.

I gave notice to the VP, General Manager yesterday and he was not happy. He told me I needed to tell the owner ASAP of my notice. He told me I would subsequenty be tossed out on my ass by the owner after I informed him of my decision.

So, I told the owner today and he said I should take a paid leave of absence!! He also offered me more $ upon my return. He told me I should chase hot blonde surfer girls in Maui and relax!! To which I responded, I cannot gaurantee that I will return. He was actually cool with it! I am shocked. I guess I caught him on a good day...

I've made my decision and am sticking to it. But, do I take the $ and tell him to fuck off after I return? Not sure what to do...

    Dear Diary....

But seriously, you should consider taking the money for the leave of absence...but give him 2 weeks notice from Maui! Not really sure on the legality of that, but if he seemed cool with it....maybe he realized he's been a total fucktard to you, and knows that's why you're taking off. Of course, even if he realizes it that's no guarentee of non-fucktardiness in the future.

Still, I was stoked to hear about your plan, sounds like a sweet deal, especially if you come back to better work. I'm also hoping your sacrifice of going to Hawaii will finally bring the damn snow, since Tyrone's knee is fine....

(firefox 2.0 is telling me fucktard and all derivatives thereof aren't words. )

Better do what your boss says then
You don't need to make a decision, really, until after all the surfin' and chasin'...
Leave some time for Skiing too

Sounds like he wants to keep you...
Although you can never tell with crazy rich peeps...
(Cinders had a boss, in UK, that went out of his way to help her get a greencard and be legal...then he fired her for having dreadlocks and frightening the clients
She took his ass to court for unfair dismissal, and won though )

Whatevah you do, Good Luck Mang !
EDIT: The great thing about plans is...you can change them
