Please Slow Down Out There!!!! (NSR)

Nothing could prepare me for what I saw on Highway 1 in the lower mainland today. I was driving east bound thru Abbotsford when traffic came to a halt on the freeway. Traffic was being diverted off the Freeway as there was a Pedestrain hit.

Right by the exit was a various emergency vehicles blocking the freeway with a tarp covering a person on the freeway with various personal effects laying around the tarp and other things which I think was, well I don't wantt to think what it was.

Anyways, after when I got back onto the freeway, people still continued speed even with the weather being so crappy. I can't figure out what makes people think that there time is more vaulable than someones life . This will be the 3 pedestrain killed in the Greater Vancouver area this month. As a highway surveyor, I see dangerous drivers all the time and its starting to piss me off. So lets get off our cell phones, stop eating while driving, or excessive speeding, constant lane changing and tail gating. Whats your life worth. 5 extra minutes at wallmart or the mall. I wish people would treat drivng with the respect it deserves.

Enough of my rant, but after today, I just had to get this off my chest.

Please don't confuse out of control drivers, complete fucktards, and those that don't pay attention to anything for people that simply drive fast while looking ahead, paying attention to what is going on, etc.

Please don't confuse closed race tracks with public roads. I must admit sometimes I find myself going a little faster than I should, but the fucktards on the road are one of the reasons people should drive the speed limit.

I'm guessing that rb was on a Canadian freeway that is different than the Interstate that Americans know as the freeway.

    Yup.

There were a couple asshats I got stuck behind this morning. They were doing 40, in a 65. Granted, it was still dark, and the roads weren't perfectly dry, but there was no reason to drive 25 mph under the limit.

They actually created an unsafe situation, because the frustrated people behind them (not me) tried to pass in sketchy places, just to get around thier gaper asses. I just honked and flashed my brights till they got the fuck out of my way, but still, gimmie a break.

Nope Rossi Bandit was on Hwy 1 the Trans-Canada highway, aka freeway, exactly like an InterState, with this part being more like I-5 thru Seattle or I-15 thru SLC. Multi lane, speed limit mostly 100kph with sections of 80 and 90 kph
(roughly 60, 50 and 55 mph) Vancouver drivers are a bunch of fucktards, possibly the worst in all of Canada.
RB if you want to get rid of tailgaters and you own a beater, try this trick I saw on Red Green. Take one of those metal lunchbuckets and an old crappy thermos or travel mug, attach to roof using metal screws from the inside of vehicle. They should stay clear of you, unless of course they're too busy yapping on their cell phones, trying to look self-important and not paying any attention to their driving anyway.

The attention-level of drivers is at an all-time low - this is a big factor - thank the cell-phones and Blackberries..

I have no idea why the pedestrain was on the freeway. I couldn't even find anything out on the news as a pedestrain death only rates for about a 1/2 of a days of news coverage in Vancouver.

All I can tell you it took awhile to get over the sight of that person lying on the road with a tarp covering them and various bit of flesh and blood laying around the area. I would think that the cops should have parked a cruiser between the body and traffic. I gues someone could say that just life, but I like to think most accidents are preventable if people would pay attention. The weather was pretty crappy that afternoon and you never know whats going to walk infront of you even if its a freeway. The Trans Canada would be quite similar to an interstate in places, except for underdesigned areas on the upperlevels where the speed limit is 80 km/h.

I tend to get a little touchy about this subject as I work on highway construction projects in the lower mainland and I can tell you even in construction zones, drivers seem to have little regard for the safety of others including the ones trying to improve the highway system.

BTW, nesta thats the funniest thing I have heard all day.

I see. The reason I was thinking it was more of a standard highway is because all the parts I've been on have stoplights when they get into the cities and they don't have the same separation from the communities with fences and what not that the interstates have.

FKNA. That's likely to cause more accidents I would think. Be great on those rush hour commutes though.

Agree....moving out from Toronto, I have never experience so many psycho drivers behind the wheel here. I'm always worried that some ass is gonna hit me. And I'm sure because of it, we also have one of the most expensive and worse auto insurance system (government monopoly) in all of North America.
