    "BROS"

I am 5'11" 212 lbs. 48 years old. I ski 90% off piste and want to buy some 179cm "Bros". I don't jump anything higher than 8-10 feet (knees). I ski fast in pow and crud; I also like to ski tight trees in all conditions. I ski Utah(Alta/Snowbird/Solitude),Whistler, and Fernie.
I have demoed Mantras for 10 days and found them to be good doing these things except that they get knocked around in heavy crud.
How do you think the "Bros" would do and would you get the softs or the stiffs?
Splat if you read this I would appreciate any comments.

    Thanks,
    H2oski

That is a great question that I have never seen asked here before. I hope someone will answer it for you.

All light weight stiff shorter skis are going to do well at most of those things but they are all going to get knocked around a bit in the heavy crud too. A ski has to be a bit longer and straighter not to mention wider to have really good heavy crud control. I take it you demoed the 177 Mantras then? If so the 179 Bro is going to be a bit better in heavy crud in the stiff flex simply because of the little extra width. Otherwise if you're really interested in crud busting at 212lbs you probably ought to buy a longer ski IMO.

Also you are probably going to be jonged for not using the search bar, jong.

No...they are magic snowblades. They are made by cross dressing Scientologist elves in a secret cave near Area 51. They may...or may not...utilize alien technology. They are core.

IIRC, this was roughly how I started my life on this board. Except I was 10 years younger and a couple inches taller.

10.5 months ago, I took delivery of my 188 Softs. I have been generally delirious with them.

My instinct at your specs would be stiffs in the 179. But this years softs were last years stiffs, so it's hard to say.

    Splat? Ty?

Yo............been kinda busy, so I have to rely on the locals to keep threads like this visible. bwaaaaaaaa!

If you're gonna do it, you'd need 179 stiffs. But my recommend goes to the 188 softs, given your weight and where you plan to ski. 188 softs are freakin dreamboats.

    Thanks for thinkin Bro!

Same as on the West Coast: (1) Find a Broselytizer. (2) Ask to borrow skis.

I don't know how aggressive of a skier you are but with your height and build you may even want to try the 188 stiffs. Still super manuervable, and bashes through crud like it is built for that specific reason.

i don't think marketing is their problem. I'd be willing to bet they sell every ski they make, including the blems.

It's pretty much the only marketing strategy for skis that are only sold direct (PM Gear, Drake, Kingswood, etc). Shops don't want to carry demos if they can't make any money selling them. The tradeoff is that it keeps prices down.

Understandable-my post was not intended to be a slap @ Bro's-more of an expression of frustration due to lack of availability

Let me know. I have a pair of 179's with demo's on them. Depending on how production works out, I may have a pair of 188's at a later date, but I wouldn't count on it. I'll be at K and in the Stowe/Smuggular area all winter.

My response to Splat last season still sums up my opinion to last year's 179 stiffs which are this year's soft model. For reference I'm 185 and the same height as you and ski Snowbird, Alta and Switzerland. I demoed the Mantra 184 last year for a comparison with the Bro. Plan to be on the 179 stiff this season and the 188 soft.

Either you or the group of guys who put this ski

I'll be on 188 stiffs with either 916 or nx21's in Southern VT all winter. Let me know if you want to give them a run.
