wow. holy crap, 30,000 and 2 crashes.
Thanx.
I bought one in 2004 and I have absolutely loved it. The carbon makes for a great ride. I payed $2100 for a 2003 frame with Ultegra and Bontrager race lite wheels. It's been super solid.
It's like I died and went to heaven, but then it turned out it wasn't my time, and they sent me to a brewery.
Are you looking to buy one? A guy in my office wants to sell his; not sure if it's the 5200 or something similar (same carbon monocoque-looking frame as above) -- 58cm frame; he thinks it's too big for him. Campy Record group, nice stuff. Not sure what his asking price is though.
I adore mine. I am a big'un for road bikes at 225#'s and this bike does not sway under me, but is a smooth cloud. They also measure long, I'm usually a 58cm frame (I am 5'10") and I fit great on my 60cm OLCV with a normal length stem.

I have the 5500 which is the same bike, just dura ace components. I don't ride it much anymore since I'm mostly on my mountain bike, but loved it while I rode a lot. The Trek carbon frames are some of the best out there in my opinion. It accelerates so well, and is such a smooth bike. They really save you when doing big rides becuase they are less fatiguing on the body (due to less vibration being transmitted to your body). I didn't notice it as much on rides under 40 miles, but over that mark, and you really start to notice. Just be careful on a used carbon frame as far as cracks. Inspect it well. As a second hand owner you don't have the warranty that the buyer did.
If you get one beware of the Rolf wheels, I've burned up a few. Low spokecount/high tension doesnt make for the best training/beat around wheel.
