Salomon Course X2 lab Spaceframe- Filling in the spaceframe holes??

    Hello,

In have a pair of Salomon Course X2 Lab Spaceframe's that I am planning to use as my primary boot this next season. They are pretty much new, but I plan to do the correct fitting, liner replacement and new footbeds, so they will be warmer & more comfortable for all day skiing. I ski as much off piste/powder as I can, mostly at or near resorts. I ski about 70% of my time off piste. Anyway, I was wondering about filling in the "spaceframe " hole cut outs with silicone or something. I am not sure how warm the boots will be leaving them open and thus exposing the entire inner boot to a lot of moisture on deep powder days. Is this or has this been a problem for anyone?? Has anyone used this boot or the standard Course spaceframe race 120 off the beaten path a lot?? Was this a concern or problem?? Any suggestions or recommendations or comments about the “Spaceframe” holes & liner warmth, inner boot exposure to moisture, etc, would be very helpful!!!

    Thanks!

Are those holes all the way through the plastic, or just thin in those spots? Most Sally's don't have the spaceframe holes going all the way through the shell...

No worries about the holes in the X2s. They're a bit chilly on "cold" days (-10 and below) but I find that the holes actually help keep things room temp-ish down there on most days, and on pow days, snow kinda packs in there and insulates shit. As far as leakage, I've had no problems...yet.

And to answer the second question, yes, the holes go all the way thru -- they're sealed with a clear rubber piece on the inside.

Why do you want to replace the liners, and with what? The X2 liner is the thinnest liner I have ever seen.

I am running '04/'05 X2 Lab's with Intuition Liners, I have the bottom/front 5 holes filled with Wurth Fix-All Plastic Epoxy. I use this epoxy for boot repair and have even used on top of the lugs after sole-planing (super bomber, and flexable). I plugged them so I could grind out inside like normal. The epoxy does become loose but has not fell out yet (2-season's) I do also have a layer of duct tape on the inside just in case. The Wurth Fix-All is sold for automotive plastic repair.

After having the toes and widths of my boots pushed out a little, I skied in them for about 4 days and the stock liners are just way to cold. They are also a very thin race liner. I am looking at liner options right now. I have a good footbed I will put in them. Any liner suggestions that anyone could give me would be great too. I have been skiing in a Sure Foot Comformable Foam Injected liner in a pair of 04 Salomon Course Race 120's that work real good. I just don’t want to spend that much money again on liners if there are other options out there that will work. As for the holes, they are cut all the way through, unlike X-Wave & Pro Model boots. I think I will just go the duct tape option, thanks mountainlion.

The spaceframe "holes" aren't open in any way. They allow no moisture in and a quick spray of silicone ensures that they never get packed with snow. They don't affect the warmth of the boot at all; its the thin race liner that's causing your feet to get cold, or overzealous buckling on the instep.
