    hey salomon binding gurus...

I just compared my 977 (now bossass) 14 din with a set of s900 12 din. The heels on the 977 are obviously made with more metal.

This is the first 12 din s900 I've had. The only reason I grabbed them is they are virtually new, like, no wear and stored with the din all the way down. Does it have the same construction as the 14 din sets that I always ski, or is the binding made from different materials? Is the 14 din different from the 16 din?

If so, what and where? should I worry about it for charging hard, or offload them to someone who will not beat the crap out of them?
    -THese are the "carbon" btw.

    thanks for all the help

not that im an expert or guru, but besides the metal issue, I did notice that the heel track on an 977/997 equipe rides on a worm drive screw for fine adjustment as opposed to the metal tab thingy of the s900/912

That binding is all plastic, toe and heel. The 977E you got rid of had a full metal heel, and hybrid metal/platic toe (toe wings were plastic).

As had been mentioned, the forward pressure adjustment is via worm screw on the old Equipes, and a "tab" on you 12 DIN 900s. There is independant toe wing adjustment on the Equipes vs. simultaneous adjustment on the 900s.

900s heel is sustantially lighter. Yous may have a partial metal housing. Starting with the 900s series, the consumer binding evolved different (lighter) housings than the comp bindings. The comp bindings soldier on with match graphics to current models, but the same design (and castings) as the old 997

Should you use it? They're indenified, so they should be safe. They're less burly than you 977 Equipes, but lighter.

As long as there isn't a bunch of UV damage to the plastic you should be fine. If you're concerned you could always get the bindings ASTM tested to make sure they are fine release wise. Old sallys=sweetness

ya. I'm a big fan of old sollys. the only bindings I use pretty much. I normally use the 14din s900. I didn't know if the construction was different on the 12 din model vs the 14 dinners that hold up so well for me. The bindings are 9.5/10, basically new, which is why I went with them. I guess i'll mount them up and find out, since the hole pattern is the same for all the other sollys.

900 carbon is alot like a 912. the 900s 14 DIN heel is metal. the 12DIN is plastic. other than that they are the same.
