cool ski swap find - old Silvretta touring binders on Hexcel Sundance

First of all let me tell you that I have an illness. I collect old freeheel gear. My wife gets annoyed sometimes at the funky ski museum I've got going all over the house, but she puts up with it.

My pops used to have a pair of these skis - not sure how cool they were/are. You tell me.

The binders on the other hand...now these are cool. Old Silvretta touring bindings. I snagged them before they were even checked in, but not before they'd been tagged with an amended warning sticker. The guy told me that back in the day, these were the shit - every ski mountaineer in Seldovia who was cool had a pair.

Lou Dawson has some photos and a write-up of the predecessor. Anyone ever ski with these?

I didn't believe in reincarnation when I was your age either.

I have a set of Silvretta touring bindings that look like those (little different design though), mounted on some wood skis that are hanging over my fireplace.

I'll try to remember to take some pics and post them in this thread for comparison.

I wouldn't ski on them though...

I got a couple pairs of the old silveretta's. Even take them out for a spin once in a while.
Also have a few friends who still use them - One guy uses them all the time with some leather boots. He can put some steam behind the skin that even Iskibc would have a hard time keeping up to, or at least it would be a pretty good race.

My current boss used to work as a tech rep for Hexcel skiis. He now laughs at how much he used to try and push those. He was right there in the very beginnings of their release though and will definately chuckle when I show him this thread.

Finally took pics of the somewhat different looking Silvrettas hanging over my fireplace:
