    Look Z Race Review

Holy moly these binders kick some serious ass. I never felt that binders would make that much of a difference in enjoying skiing, but sunday it was like a new sport.

Picked up some Z Races from Gorillo and stuck em on the mantis 777s to replace the Solly 912ti's. They released too much for my liking(DIN set to 10.5) and that typical toe wiggle freaked me out some. Also, they were on rental tracks, so they had lift. A lot of it. They elans were definately quick edge to edge to say the least.

So first run with the Z races and the first thing I notice is the lack of lift. A little slower edge to edge, but the difference elsewhere was night and day. Bumps I wasnt constantly being tossed forward, and in the trees they seemed a lot quicker, seemed to float better in the 8 inches of fresh snow. Basically just seemed more stable all around. Best of all, they never released all day, and I'm running my settings at 9.5. Coolest thing is I can drive my knees forward but stay back and just bust through soft snow. The setup feels like its more stable now, which was really nice. Starting to feel like I kinda know what I'm doing out there.

The binders are bomber as hell. I dont think I'll ever need another set on this ski, and entry and exit feel a lot more substancial. When I'm in, I know it. No guessing around. Also, seems like I dont need as much force to get into the binder, or to release the heel piece stepping out. With the sollys when I wanted to get out it seemed like it was impossible.

So yeah, I'm completely sold on the looks now. Great binder.

Welcome to the club. I've had my Look Z Race's since 1992 and they're still going strong on my G4's.

I haven't used my Rossi FKSs yet. But I have a pair of Solly 916s on my Gotamas and 914s on my NKOs. There's no comparison. Both are set at the same DIN and the 914s are total pieces of shit. The wings loosen too much, the bindings creak horribly like they're going to explode, and I've had them pop off at weird times. The 916s are the exact opposite. No wobble, no constant adjustment, and they've only popped off only one time (when they actually should have). It's like night and day. Needless to say, I'm now a huge fan of green spring binders (along with my Rossi 140s). Plus it helps that I bought them new for $90.

On my explosives I have been running a zr toe piece with a p14 heel, and it is a awesome combonation, the burly zr toe piece doesnt blow up like the standard p12 / p14 one, and the p14 heel piece is easy to get wide breaks for. Heavy and burly where you need it, and light where you dont

It definitely is night and day. Ever since I switched from Sollys to Looks Ive had much greater days. It got to the point where I just didnt feel confident in my sollys, they just released too easily. My looks feel solid everywhere (park, bumps, steeps, trees). Theyve only released when necessary, never at any other time (it really sucks to lose a ski when landing a little off and then proceed to hike back up the jump to retrieve a ski in front of the lift).
