Keeping him in Iraq was a stupid idea. They try to make it out as a good thing that he was tried by their spanking new country, but in reality they scraped through what is a farcical trial with a sentencing that will only cause more trouble in Iraq. This isn't even the end of it, all death sentences automatically go to an appeals court, they need to get things over with.

Are you surprised by this? The conviction and death sentence were predicted by everyone on TV.

The surprise was the verdict just happened to come two days before an election. Gee! what a coincidence.

I can't say I really see an use in the death penalty, but I have to admit, I can't think of too many people that deserve it, but he is one of them.

criticizing the laying waste of a country and mass murder is only stale if you don't giva a crap what's done in the name of your country...or if three years of spinning the WHY's of this particular war has gotten too lulling....zzzz

it's certainly not a Democrat v Republican thing for me.
they both have blood on their hands...more dems than not are like hillary, and want at the war themselves...to do it more competently or some crap like that ... Anyone who thinks we don't live under a one-corporate party system must be giving the dems WAY too much cred as an opposition party. there are a few good congresspeople in both parties, but that just adds to the illusion that they don't all kiss the same ring of their corporate patrons.

Ya true. I rate that right up there with releasing a slanted documentry about a sitting President trying to push the voters to unseat him.

My point is they all pull the same stupid tricks

...yup. and don't forget, hillary jumped all over kerry - and i would be the last to come to that folded hanky's defense but to make a point - for his botched joke, even though she certainly had to have heard the entire flubbed-joke set-up as she calculated her own self-important response. they're all crap...and they all lock out third party candidates from theiir debates...as though having someone not bought and sold by the pimps they work for might...reveal the game they play on the public at large...

So does anyone think that the possibility of the death penalty was a deterrant to Saddam killing people?

what he said. but then again, with the new democratic government I'll betcha comes the lovely option for appeals I-IV and appeals V-XXXV and if that doesn't require selling off another shipment of oil to pay for it...

Where are the Saudi's and their immediacy of carrying out sentances when you need them?

Headline on NYTimes.com going into Monday morning:
"Bush Trumpets Hussein Verdict to Rally Support
By ADAM NAGOURNEY and JIM RUTENBERG

Some polls suggested the Republicans might be making gains in the final hours of the campaign."

Combine this with voting "irregularities" in crucial states like Ohio and this could get bad, quick.

    Ugh.

If George the Lesser were a real MAN, he would have challenged Saddam to a wrist-tied knife fight, or at the very least, a dual.

No. Psycopathic dictators rarely look into the social ramifications of their saddistic decisions.

But man the the sadist used some seriously bad nuero toxin on his own people. And it is seriously bad shit. In aerosol form it is absorbed through the skin mostly because most tend to hold their breath when the shit goes off. It hits you faster if you are sweating because blood vessels are raised closer to the outer layers of skin so you cool off. Instant red very painful flaming rashes form on your skin. You immediately go blind, and a severe ringing sensation hits your ears that basically incompassitates you. Your lungs stop working because the nerve agent burned most of the sacs in your lungs. So you are getting the drowning sensation. Finally your body goes into such bad muscle contractions that your spinal cord snaps in many places. But be at peace because those muscles contractions will snap your neck first because of the lack of bone support. All this joy starts to happen in about 3-5 seconds from start of exposure.

That's if you get a concentrated dose if you are in the target area. If you are not you will still feel the effects but in lesser form. But the effects eventually get you one way or another. Many of the Kurds after the exposure that survived ended up dying later on from many different ailments that can be traced back to the initial nerve agent exposure. Like I said it eventually gets you.

death is just too easy a way out for the SOB. I'd prefer to see him spending the rest of his life in a 6 x 6 ft. cell wallowing in his own shit and piss and loneliness. let the guy suffer a little, for cryin' out loud!!

Not noramlly a fan of the death sentence but the idea of stringing up Hussain and a few of his associates makes me all warm and fuzzy.

I'm not by any means a fan of Saddam, but it kinda seems like he might have been setup.

From what I understand, he wasn't really given any sort of real judicial process in this trial -- you know, like the right to cross-examine testimony and/or evidence.

Also, look beyond that. Before he got all ambitious and decided to take out Kuwait, he was essentially, a US puppet. Hell, there's even plenty of evidence to suggest that when Saddam revealed his Kuwait intentions that the US said "go right ahead, we have no problem with that." When he did all of his horrible deeds, he was using a lot of weapons that came with a good ole "Made in the USA" seal of approval on them.

Not that those things make what he did right, but something is horribly horribly fishy here.
