Locking shit down: 2007 TGR Summit Roll Call

Due to lodging availabilities (a property hasn't been set yet, as I need to about how many people actually need a place to stay), the Aspen Summit has been set for the last weekend in March. I am looking to book some group deal at a place to stay for Friday night March 30th, Saturday night March 31, and Sunday night April 1.

Out of the proposals I have received, the following from Aspen Meadows looks the best. It is in the town of Aspen, which was the collective maggot desire.

    Dear Max:

Thank you for your interest in the Aspen Meadows Resort, home of the Aspen Institute. We are delighted to be under consideration for Teton Gravity Research Ski Summit Friday, March 30, 2007 -- Monday, April 2, 2007

Our unique and historic hotel provides breathtaking views of five mountain peaks. Located on 40 acres in a park-like setting, our guests enjoy large suites with floor to ceiling windows that “bring the outside in”. Aspen Meadows is minutes to Aspen’s world-class shopping, dining, and nightlife. Summer is a cornucopia of culture, featuring The Aspen Music Festival, Aspen Food and Wine Classic, Jazz Festivals, Volleyball and Tennis Tournaments, and any outdoor activity you can imagine. Then, there is the fresh powder and bright blue skies of the winters in Aspen. Nestled below two Mountains, Aspen Highlands & Aspen Mountain with Buttermilk Mountain located a mere 3 miles from the resort and Snowmass Village an additional 9 miles away, you never have to ski the same run twice.

    ACCOMODATIONS
When you aren’t enjoying the outdoors of Aspen, relax in style and comfort in one of our 98 guest suites. The average size of our suites is over 700 square feet, and each offers a comfortable living area with a couch and chairs, as well as a separate sleeping area with plush king or two queen beds. Our guest suites are designed around the principles of function, space, and comfort. The furnishings are of the contemporary styles that accentuate the mountain experience.

    Guestroom Rates:
Room rates are a per person, per night charge and only cover the cost of lodging. The rates are based on single or double occupancy and are subject to a room tax of 9.6%. These taxes are subject to change.

    3/30/2007 3/31/2007 4/1/2007
    Run of House 25 25 25

    Rates Single Double
    Run of House: $150.00 $150.00

    Function Space:
Aspen Meadows Resort agrees to provide adequate function space to accommodate your agenda and reserves the right to assign space according to your final number of attendees. Please be advised that we will make every effort to assign your preferred rooms. There is no function space requested at this time.

    TRANSPORTATION
United Express offers several daily flights into Aspen from many major cities including Denver International Airport. Getting around Aspen itself has never been easier, there is no need to worry about the added expense of car rental or parking, The Aspen Meadows Resort has complimentary shuttles that pick you up at the airport, and can transport you to central Aspen, or conveniently drop you off at the ski lifts. No need to bother with hauling things around or worrying about your equipment—our bell staff will help load and store everything including skis and snowboards as well as your purchases from days shopping.

    AMENTITIES
A complete fitness center offers a year-round outdoor pool and Jacuzzi located on a plateau overlooking the Roaring Fork River and Red Mountain. Inside, there is a full-circuit health club with equipment ranging from cardiovascular to free-weights to Pilate’s—and personal trainers are available to help maximize your workout. Complete with a half court gym and complimentary membership as a guest at the Aspen Meadows you’ll want to make time for a massage or spend a few minutes in the steam room after an epic day on the mountains skiing, riding or hiking.

End your day in the Hefner lounge sipping on a drink by the fireplace and taking in our majestic peaks and magnificent surroundings. While dining in our restaurant, enjoy watching the sunset as you're treated to the finest-and most eclectic-cuisine in Aspen. Whether it’s French, Italian, or Asian, our meals are as flavorful as the surroundings.

I am not sure whether the $150/night is per person or per room. I tried to make it fairly clear that we would not settle for more than $100/person/night, so I'm wondering if the single-double occupancy nonsense is accurate. An email will be sent tonight.

Bottom line: PLEASE POST HERE IF YOU NEED A PLACE TO STAY IN ASPEN MARCH 30TH-MORNING OF APRIL 2.
Also, out of those of you who do need a place to stay, I would like to know how many are willing to double up for those three nights. So as to have some idea of how many rooms we need, versus how many people will be attending.

Sorry for posting this in Ski/Snowboard, but the guy from the chamber of commerce said we are running out of time to book, so getting more hits more quickly is tantamount.

I'll post whenever I find out exactly what the rate is. If you guys express a significant collective interest, I may be able to negotiate the price down. As far as I know, the group buy people are checking here periodically to see if there's any Summit booking activity. So look lively.

Hope to see you bastids there!

The best summits are the spontaneous ones. Organization just gives it a feel of a 3rd grade girl scout field trip

Nice. 5 replies and none of them have projected me any farther towards my goal.

Shera, some people (ahem) think nerdiness/intellect is sexy.

Technically my spring break ends tghe 24th. But I am also inclined to just miss that week of school because at that point I can't imagine having any real obligations...

But if I stay, I won't need a place to stay, but a ride home to Carbondale every night would be nice

In AKPM's mind, everything in CO sucks. That's because he hasn't been here, and hasn't been able to take shitty pictures of it to prove that it sucks.

If things go as planned with my little business venture, I'll need a spot for two nights. Of course, I won't know about that for another 3 months... so put me down as a definite maybe.

And we should have the summit somewhere closer? To Alaska?

I am seriously looking forward to meeting and skiing with the Utard crowd. Aspen seems like the perfect middle ground to me.

At the Tahoe summit, the British contingent got a swank party house and Ubersheist and I stayed there. That was the perfect scene, IMO. Way freaking cheaper than a hotel room. And a kitchen and living room with TV, etc. Mebbe some of us could get together on something like that.
