    1999 Gt Avalanche...

So I used to cross-country ride a ton... Was really into it. Went to a College where there wasn't great riding and the surfing was better so I fell out of touch with the sport. I am looking to get back into it and was wondering if I wanted to save the frame and rebuild or just go all new? I was told by a random that the frame was a hot commodity and it still has mostly XT components (Kore Stem, V-Brakes, etc...) but I just dont know. WWMD?
    Thanks for the help...

Get a new bike. Seriously. I was in the same boat. I raced a bunch of XC in high school. I went to college and riding was way too much of a pain in the ass, so I quit, but kept my bike. I still have my '96 Stumpjumper hardtail, but I decided to buy a 6" travel bike (Trek Remedy 6) to get back into riding. I'm so fucking glad I made this decision. I really don't think I would have gotten back into it nearly as quickly or had nearly as much fun if I'd stuck with my old bike. It will take a little getting used to, and riding an extra ten pounds uphill will take its toll at first. But once you figure things out an FS rig will do everthing better than your old hardtail. Downhill and up. Drop the cash on a new ride. Do it!

Thanks, I had a feeling that would be the direction I would likely go... Just didn't want to do it if it wasn't nec. What other options did you look at? Were you able to find a deal on the Remedy Six?

most companys make a 5-6" travel 30 pound bike now.

use bigger rubbe for DH, lighter stuff if you are more XC. truely a do everything ride (I'm on C'ndale profit)

get disc, full suspension (that works), etc for $2000ish

save the GT for a town or single speed option...
