"...And my quarter is ruined. My business lost about 200K in revenue.
On a positive note, I did save some money on car insurance by staying with GEICO..."
mine is going to be here in a weekno more waiting for ages to compress video with H.264!
hopefully yours won't ship back and forth across the country like my powerbook did
My MBP is the best machine I've ever had.
I'm on mine right now. It's my first mac and I love it!
Very nice. I'm on one as well and has been a pretty painless switch from windows. I wanted to wait for the Core 2 Duos to be releases but unfortunately school didn't let me wait long enough.
Before my MBP, my previous Apple was a IIe back in the day. I love my MBP, run linux & windows on it thx to Parallels. Quite versatile and Open Office has finally been ported over as well.
my MB shipped from Suzhou, China, last month, wherever the hell that is. Pretty amazing that these things are being fed-exed direct from China to the States, no intermediary warehouse or anything.
I just got a new one a couple weeks ago. 2 gigs of ram makes me happy.
Yeah i've been on mine for about 7 months and i love it.....i run both OS X and Windows (parallels)......i got the 2.16 and 2 gigs o ram.......macs rule
Enjoy......
I'm about to order the 20" imac with the 2.33 processor, 2 Gigs of RAM, and the upgraded graphics card since I'm using it for film editing, and it's way bigger/cheaper than the MBP.
Other than portability is there any reason why I should consider the MBP over the imac?
Apple portables usually have a better resale value than the iMac. (+1 MBP)
The Macbook Pro was *just* upgraded (7 days ago) whereas the iMac is mid-product cycle (55 days old of ~150day cycle) (+1 MBP)
The iMac tops out at 2GB of RAM, whereas the MBP can have 3GB (+1 MBP)
Larger internal HD capacity with the iMac (+1 iMac), however this can be met by having an external HD, which you should have anyway to back your shit up (Push), however the MBP has a FW800 port whereas the iMac does not (+1 MBP)
The iMac has a faster DVD Burner (barely), (+1 iMac)
Both can have 256MB of graphics memory (Push), however the MBP with 256MB has a 2.33GHz processor (+1 MBP)
Macbook Pro is Portable, has a backlit keyboard (which is nice), and all the power of the iMac. (+1 MBP)
Comparable MBP is $659 more than iMac (+1 iMac)
MBP increases your chances of getting bowed down on 5x, whereas the iMac is 0x (+1 MBP)
MBP (7)>>iMac (3)
iMac:Macbook Pro:
I might have worked for Apple at one point. Or I might just be a geek doing everything possible to delay studying for my exams tomorrow.
Cheers.
...so I got that goin' for me, which is nice.
That's some solid info there Kristof and definitely saved me a trip to the apple store. If I have the 2.33 with the 256mb graphics card on the imac isn't that the same was what's offered on the MBP? I just checked again and the iMac can go up to 3Gigs (for something like $600) though. For editing purposes though I think the 3 inch larger screen for $700 less seals the deal on the imac for me...although if I could afford it I'd get the mac pro and an even bigger screen.
Oh yeah, I suppose I forgot to include the screen size. +1 iMac
There are slight differences in the graphics chipset between the Radeon X1600 in the iMac and the Radeon Mobility X1600 in the MBP.
...so I got that goin' for me, which is nice.
I got my MB about a month ago, went back and forth between the black MB or the 15" MBP, decided I had no need for all that power. First mac and I love it.
Go Sharks.
