anyone else buy their season pass to SK yet?

since i still havent had a season i decided i would love to spend my nights at the king... does anyone else do this or will i be pretty lonley on top of Americas STEEPEST mountain?

p.s. theres already jumps built on the two lowest patches of snow =)

did you get a pass elsewhere? if so, you might be pretty worked at the end of the day to ride at night. night riding is a novelty--maybe only worth it if there's good snow. don't think they keep the lift to the top running at night, but i could be wrong on that.

it's often nad-freezing cold there at night. i might volunteer to patrol there.

This year they installed patio heating (gas lanterns) to cover the entire slope! This is groundbreaking, and could herald a new age of night skiing revenue.
The concept is only possible due to the fact that heat rises, (and cold sinks), so raising the ambient air temperature will not affect the snow surface temps...although that could be a future improvement!
In other news, Freebird Burritos is opening a franchise in the ice rink. This is exciting stuff!

you'll get your money's worth...esp if working for JHMR you might not get tons of ski time (depending on your job) so you won't be worked.

get the f### out of dodge during hill-climb week. that's my suggestion.

Well I wouldn't pass up a day at the Viallage for the King...or even a day in the BC...

On nice days taking turns at lunch is popular. Last year was a banner year for the King. I've gotten fresh turns all day long at the King. Night skiing is fun, but as Upallnight mentioned- it is purely a novelty.

I ski there a lot with the kids- so do a lot of other families. Hey it ain't the Village, but where else do you have a pretty good mountain right out the front door? A Town Hill? And yes my son thoroughly enjoys watching the Hill Climb from the lift.

    I do too.

I usually get a pass to the King. I haven’t pulled the trigger yet this year, but probably will soon. It’s 3 blocks from my office so it makes a great lunch break. Last year I might have hiked it in the AM more than I rode the lifts.

Yeah- that's getting popular. I wish Josie's Ridge was open in the winter. The return to my house would be simple. Lot's of people poach it, but the way people look up there I'm not ready...yet.

SK is like skiing on a sloped hockey rink most of the time at night. However, once in a while, if town is getting hammered, it's a blast when they turn on the lights.

I opt for the free inverted hockey rink turns in the morning before they open. That's my suggestion for you.

    ^^^What he said.^^^

Remember people don't travel here to ski the King. They only come from Texas to ski the King.

some guy that does snowmaking there told me a few days ago that if we get a few good early snowfalls in november that they might try and push a kicker together and hold a pre-season "big" air comp that could be pretty cool

i never thought about the freeze factor on the king... maybe it will help me practice for the inevitable EC trip i will oneday take =)

oh and in other news... this years mountain hosts WILL be able to ride the tram =O

    1. The hillclimb crowd is equal parts moderately amusing and mildly annoying. You get your fill of them doing whatever normal activities/errands you do around town. Not worth going out of your way to see them.

    2. The Snowking pass is silly if you are working at the village. It's a great deal for working stiffs, locals with kids, etc. But if you just have one season there, spend your days wearing your legs out at the village, your nights chasing recently graduated coeds around the bars. Buy one or two hours on the two nights a year that it's actually dumped at the king and you didn't get enough during the day at the village.

    3. Why just one year in Jackson? No reason to hurry back to Texas, or anyplace else for that matter (but especially not Texas). Enjoy Jackson and leave when you've had enough (are sick of being broke).
