    The epitome of "No Hope?"

Mobile has the oldest Mardi Gras party in the US, btw. It seemed like a nice enough town as I was driving through....

I grew up in and around Mobile. The other major cities have high crime rates. I couldn't find Mobile on any of the lists at Wikipedia.

    Didja catch their online poll?

Do you agree with Tennessee's law restricting sex offenders from participating in Halloween celebrations?

But on the plus side, I know of few places on earth where you can get an RV fixed for free simply because your college football team is playing against the mechanic's rival college football team.

Beat me to it. I just came to post this:

Teen Arrested for Raping His Mother

    Oct 28, 2006 01:36 PM EDT

Albertville, Ala. -- Police say a Marshall County teen raped his mother to get revenge on his brother.

Police say 19-year-old Gary Helms, Jr., raped his 45-year-old mother this past weekend at Willow Terrace Trailer Park on Doyle Drive in Albertville.

It's a twisted crime that police say Helms admits.

"From what we understand the rape stemmed from an argument between him and his brother. And apparently they were arguing over a girlfriend. And the rape was some sort of retaliation towards his brother," said Sgt. Jamie Smith of the Albertville Police Department.

It was unusual retaliation on an unsuspecting victim.

Authorities say Helms' mother was apparently passed out drunk on the couch when the rape started.

"During the attack she did come to and recognize her attacker. (Reporter: As her son?) As her son," said Smith.

That's when, according to the police report, the mother "tried to get away, but he held her down until he was finished."

"It's totally sick is what it is," said Smith.

Helms was arrested and charged with the 1st degree rape of his own mother.

Smith says it's hard to wrap your mind around.

"Shocked, shocked would be more a better way to describe it. That somebody would dip to the lows to do something of this nature. It's just pretty much a shock to the conscience of the general public," said Smith.

Helms is being held in the Marshall County Jail on $100,000 bond.
I should want to cook him a simple meal, but I shouldn't want to cut into him, to tear the flesh, to wear the flesh, to be born unto new worlds where his flesh becomes my key.

I don't agree with that at all. I would vote no if I bothered to vote. A sex offender isn't neccesarily a rapist or pervert or child molester. I remember someone posting a thread here about someone getting caught boning thier own (of age) girlfreind, too close to a school, and being prosecuted for it. That will techinically clasify you as a sex offender.

Also, who says halloween celebrations are just for kids? Granted, trick or treating would be creepy if drunk adults were doing it, but most orginized "celebrations" are probably parties for adults, where everyone is getting drunk. God forbid someone who likes to fool around with thier girlfreind goes to a party on a certain day of the year.

I was in Montgomery and Wetumpka about a year ago. Yikes!!!! If anyone thinks the Civil Rights Movement put an end to racism and discrimination in that part of the country - think again. I was stunned at the level of overt and malicious racism I saw & heard... All in a whopping 48 hours in the state. Although I confess I was perversely fascinated by an impoverished place that could support a megastore named Cammo Town (or something to that effect)...

When we got back, we were talking with an acquaintance (now a PNW type) who used to live there. As soon as we mentioned how shocking the trip had been, they immediately said "bet that's the first time you can even remember hearing the 'N word' used freely in public". This was before we had mentioned any details. When we asked how they had known this had happened, the answer was simple: "I used to live there...".

    The place made me sick...
