    Smuggs report 2/8

We got a surprise snow storm, lake effect you could call it I guess, of about 4 inches. But, over the past week or so Smuggs has gotten about 18 inches in small increments. So anyway Crashnburned, Z and I met up at 10:30 as planned for a tour of Smuggs. Unfortunately mildbill could not make it because of an equipment issue. Too bad for MB because we skied pow all day long. Conditions in the trees ranged from soft leftovers to boot top pow to knee deep untracked creamy goodness. For the deeper stuff we hiked from Smuggs across Sterling Pond into the Mt. Mansfield State Forest BC. Up there we found the goods. Steep, deep and untouched. We were all pretty surprised to find snow that deep but it is there if you know where to look and are willing to earn it.

It was a day of sunshine, powder, drops, hoots, laughs and smiles. Until the last run of the day I don't think we actually skied an official trail. We went from tree shot to tree shot while inbounds and then when that was beat we went else where to look. I am thuroghly exhausted from skiing so hard over the past two days, saturday was more of the same with some of my smuggs crew, just not as deep.

Pics will follow tomorrow. Thanks for a great day guys, see you again sometime.

I hit up smuggs early in the season right after they had gotten almost 5 feet in the week prior to when i arrived... such an awesome mtn, and the BC stuff was really good, there was jsut so much snow, and that was the first time i had been in that BC. I put together about a 45 sec highlight film from the trip... there was finally enough snow to drop the cliff under sterling chair...her's the vid...

Sweet guys, looks like a blast. I woke up sunday morning and wasnt sure where to go, but mr. finance made the decision for me so I went to Sugarbush. I'd say there was 6-8 inches of new snow from saturday, it was knee deep in paradise and Castlerock kicked some serious A. Nicest I've seen the mountain since the big december storms rolled through.

Hey Vin, Black Hole is that triple black diamond trail, is it really extreme as Smuggs makes it out to be? Seems kinda gimicky.

The black hole is pretty steep and tight in spots but not any more so that some of the stuff we skied at MRG or some of the stuff in the back bowls or off the bull wheel on Spruce.

Bump, cause I want to thank Vinman for showing us around. Probably shouldn't have skied, but was good I had a 15 footer to double eject, faceplant on my second run to get rid of the headache I had left over from the previous day .
