    '00 marzocchi monster T question...

...the stanchions have a butted/thinner section where the lower crown would bolt on. Does the lower crown need to stay in the thinner section, or can the crown be half on/half off the thin section? The thing that makes me wonder about this is that it is an abrupt change from thick to thin, and is about 0.5mm deep. I looked at the owner's manual for a '00 and a '01, and the only thing close to describing the location of the lower crown is that it must be at least 178mm from the tire. The part that sucks is that when I have the crown where I want, then the ridge of the thick/thin section of the stanchion is in the middle of the lower crown. Basicaly, I don't want to break the crown, stanchion, or myself in the process if I put the crown where its not supposed to be. Any thoughts?

with 180mm of clearance between the tire and crown, the ridge is about 5mm from the top of the lower crown. If the ridge is flush with the top of the lower crown, there isn't enough clearance between tire and crown. What do you think about a little PBR shim-ery?

Its with the 2.8 michie, but I can't remember which rim Pete has. Its as wide as a singletrack. I searched on ridemonkey, but couldn't find anything for the '00. On a '03(I think, maybe '02) a guy was talking about not having the lower crown too far down and out of the reinforced area of the stanchion. If anything on the '00 the thicker part would be stronger. I'm just surprised that the owner's manual doesn't mention anything about the ridge.
