Warren Miller "Off the Grid" showings

Quick jong question: there is an "off the grid" showing here tonight: kicker is it's $20 -not- including the usual ticket master charges. So it's $20+ for the movie and that's it? No free booze? No hookers? No blow?

Blast away... Thanks for the feedback.

Maybe free midweek passes to a local hill...they prey on the general populace who don't know other ski flicks exist.

its not a bad deal if you get a day pass plus what ever swag they give away.

the film is..well just like porn...oh except for the the High Def, now that certainly rocks!

I noticed at some early showings they were giving away two-for-one passes to Copper... For midweek... For use prior to December 16...

I think I may spend the $20 on booze and watch "Tangerine Dream" from the comfort of my own home for the sixtieth time. Hell, "Cold Fusion" is on six or seven nights a week on one of the free cable channels.

Edit: Actually, having done a little digging, I found that each ticket gets you a free lone peak pass, good except for the usual black out days. A damned good deal if only I were planning a MT trip winter.

actually probably isnt HD and even if it was, its shittier than real film.
WM shows their films using DVDs and a video projector. Since you cant transfer hi def to a dvd youre not getting HD on the screen. Therefore its just marketing bullshit.

Not this year. Nissan didnt man-up the $$$$ to drill into us that we cannot make it up the hill without one of their products. Last year it was one long-ass Jeep and Nature Valley commercial, with a little bit of skiing.

Well actually the WM film that I saw on a super big screen @ Abravanel Hall in SLC was very HD...now I'm at a loss as to whether it was true HD or not, but it sure was super high quality and better than any ski porn I have seen at any premier.

Even if they're showing it off of a DVD there is such a thing as HDDVD players these days. So yea.

Yep, we're going to it tonight at 9:30.....and we get the same deal. I'm going to wear my PM Gear shirt to distinguish myself from the crowd of gapers.

I am a little miffed by Warren Miller. Particularly because any ski movie that requires an intermission is way too long. The reason to go to WM is cuz the dude is who started ski movies and we owe it to him. However, the season really kicks off when you hit up the MSP/TGR after parties. WM needs to take all that swag and throw in some booze for $20 a person.

I'll be at the 9:30pm show tonight at the Wheeler.

I think last year we got $25 off $100 coupon for Aspen Sports, which is not that great, but better than nothing.

I just saw the WM showing here in Vancouver tonight. It was... well, ski porn. But, the 2-for-1 pass at Whistler pays for itself.

I saw part of it. It was more cannon fodder for derision than anything else. The skiing was fine in parts, but the commentary was Jeremy Bloom-no-inflection-235th-time-he-said-"off the grid" typical crap.

The good news: If I end up making a movie this year it will be called "Clinging Desperately to the Grid."

    wow Im back...

nicely done squatch! You had me at derision!

but you really gotta let go of the Grid.

besides Jeremy Bloom needs our help.

at least he needs some vibes from peeps that want to see him score a TD in the NFL. +++

Saw the movie the other night. Sweet flick. So much better than last year. Anyway I asked a guy that worked for them the same question and he said they travel with their own HD decks and projectors since most places don't have that equipment. Pretty sweet move if you ask me. Definitely looked sick.

Good point. I usually go and my wife, who's a non-skier, usually falls asleep. Best $20 nap anywhere
