Anyone been there or know owner Larry Dolecki?
Thinking of a visit in mid Feb 07
Graciarse.
Be there in April with a private group....heard good stuff (surprise, surprise)....I think some of the peaks there are a little higher than most of the other British Columbia lodges ...I think the lodge is a little smaller than some...13 max folks? ...heard good reports from a couple of guides who have been there.....it'll have to be six months till I can get you an actual report........CTR
We toured out of a hut in the north-east italian alps (ortler-cevedale) for a week last april and larry was our guide. I thought he was really great -- really easy-going and very competent, especially on the glacier which we were less familiar with. I think he's also a pretty experienced climber/mountaineer too from what I understand. he also is very willing to guide to what you want to ski and is not overly cautious -- I'm also *pretty* sure that he'll let you self-guide out of icefall, but if I were going I'd probably want him along because he knows the area so well.
we haven't been up to icefall yet, but are hoping to get up in the next year or so. I know the current cabin that he has is somewhat new and relatively small -- I believe he is planning on building another swankier cabin in the next year or so, but may have made more progress on that this summer. I know the current lodge/cabin has a sauna.
from the pictures that I've seen, the terrain surrounding larry's lodge looks awesome. three that larry sent us are below -- I'm pretty sure all three are all from icefall, and the tall one on the right is from our trip in italy. larry's lease is right next to a national park -- I think it's rock mt nat'l park, not sure -- and apparently it takes long enough to skin in that the entire area is primarily heli-access. I could be wrong, but I recall larry saying that one of the nice things about the area is that there are some good treed (tree-ed? tree-d?) areas that are great in case you catch a storm and can't go up to the peaks.
