    Recovering deleted files:DAMMIT! Noobville

Prior to caffeine consumption this morning my fingers graced the wrong keys in haze of fatigue and stupidity. I ended up deleting (not to recycle) some pretty fucking important files. They are backed up on another hard drive, but those HD's are not in my posession at the moment.

Anyone know of good software for file recovery?

A bullet nearly travelled through my brain this morning when I saw these files travelling into cyberfuck.

These guys just came out with one. I like their other programs.
You might get your stuff back on the trial version.

    edit:

I just got a new computer with the Intel duo core and had some issues bringing all my data across from the old hard drive and but ended up bringing the bug I was trying to leave along with the files. Something in firefox was weird. I thought I lost a lot of stuff, but Tom salvaged most of it for me, using the chip in his camera to transfer it. We called it the Time Virus because we had to do a series of system restores to get behind the firefox installation, which was installed before the data. I feel your pain.

    ps:

Further review tells me that program won't recover your files with the trial version...ask f2f, I bet he knows.

    1) stop using that computer if you can. Otherwise, it could overwrite those files
    2) get a program to recover you files, tons out there. Unless you have a completly full harddrive, or have some really intense file deletion software, most of it should still be there

Got 75% of them back, mostly uncorrupted. So I only lost about 16 hours of work. No biggie.

As others have stated, you should stop using the system as the first step so the files do not get over written. What ever you do, do not install the recovery software on the same drive. There are a few good undelete recovery programs out there- some are really pricey too. Some are free download and others cost some funds. The ones I use the most are PC Inspector File Recovery (free download) GetDataBack (there are 2 versions or a bundle of both) that is a paid package. A few other tools out there also for things like digital camera media, etc. USB hard drive enclosure can be your friend to load up the drive for recovery on another computer system.

Some that are knowledgeable also recommend a few of the Linux packages that can read the NTFS drives, I find them harder to use though unless you know Linux pretty well than the above that work under Windows.
