Oh no! I'll make a pass up there tomorrow. Better find that thing quick or you won't see it till June.
Not what I want to hear after just ordering some ft12's from yurp.

Spent the day in upper Brackett with the sleds... got foiled by insane winds. Crazy scouring and cross-loading all over the place. At least the brats were tasty.

I would appreciate it Scott. Luckily it looks like there isnt too much new snow in the forecast. Hopefully patrol blasts it out of the area in the next day or two. Watch out for the rocks in upper Z. Its skiing really shitty right now.

I will be up there on monday in lost shot if anyone wants to say hi...

Crossposting from the Missoula thread because I know there are more mags in Bozeman:

Help a kid ski this winter.

I am involved, as a volunteer, with a kid who has been through some incredibly fucked up situations due to family issues. For the past few winters he has been in places where he has been lucky enough to be able to go skiing at least a few times and those places have funded rentals etc.

This year he is not in a situation like that, but do to the generosity of some other mags we have already scored him a five pack at his local hill.

I have a pair of boots for him, and now I am looking for a VERY cheap or hopefully free pair of skis with binders for him. They don't have to be sweet boards or anything, but something that is 180-185ish and maybe a bit wider than 70 underfoot, and not horribly beat. BSL 345, but I can definitely remount or whatever.

If you have anything that fits this criteria you can make a kid who has had a rough go of it very happy this winter. Thanks.

Hey G, I always lock the toes on the way down. Had a double eject on a pow day morning. Sure was glad when I rolled over to find the skis still on my toes tele style.

I was in a big buuf of snow below whirlpools and would have been digging for a while for both skis but I just stood up and knocked out the snow and clicked in. Obviously inherent risks are assumed when locking the toes but I don't like my gear to come off unless its really necessary IMO.

Do you run your diddles at full din? I do basically. Come get that press soon?

Single - Sucks to hear about the lost Lhasa. I'll be up there on Monday skiing with the wife, but could definitely help in a search/rescue mission in the afternoon.

Rootskier - PM sent about some binders for the cause.

Moved to Bozeman this summer and I'm looking for people to ride with any day of the week. G/f is usual partner but she got a pass to BS through work after I already bought my pass. I'm a knuckle dragger but I can keep up and I work harder to keep up when things get more advantageous for skiers. PM me if you're game for laps. Slushmans was pretty fun today. Looking for more this week, and if I'm lucky someone to show me a few lines on the ridge.

Nice pix lexi! Yesterday was the best day of the season for me thus far... The reported 10" of 4% blower was more like thigh deep off the top. Was having way to much fun to stop for pictures.

On the other hand perhaps I should have... After that 4 day weekend, my legs don't seem to want to function today.

Finally some love for us, been a fun week, good to ski/drink beers with some of ya. Single I hope you found the ski, if not, you can always use my trekkers if you want, it's not that bad, I'll even ski with 'em in my pack on the way down if the snow is good enough, Not a ton of pics so far but here is one I like of Pnut on one of those December days measured in half inches.

Nice little storm so far today; snow came in moist and bonded great. Soft turns everywhere. Pic of the wifeski enjoying the Apron.

Looks like somebody triggered a slide on the south face of saddle today...

Anyone know the details? Tough to tell from the pictures, but it almost looks like they triggered that windslab that formed earlier this week and then it stepped down to the ground. I guess the new loading this weekend pushed it over the edge.

I was out on Ellis on Thursday and the conditions were a little sketch. Consistently getting CT3's on the windslab in different pits. Never got on anything steep enough to do a good ECT (I was being extra cautious because we had a few collapses on the way up), but on the 20 degree slope where I dug my main pit got an ECTN3. Finally, we just basically got low enough where the danger was more from wet slides/torquing your knee in the ridiculous slush.

How tall is the crown? That looks like a lot of snow. That side must have been a lot more of the loaded than the north.
Keep your tips up and always remember to unhook your pack from the chair...

I'm constantly amazed that more slides like this aren't triggered out there. One thing that really scares me is the big bowl and cornice between the summits. I can't believe that there are people who drop into that thing like nothing on any given powder day.

Not to criticize, good for them, I wish I felt that lucky. It's just something I have to factor into any decision I make if I ski anywhere over there, because we all have to cross those paths coming back at some point.

I even saw someone standing on the edge of the giant cornice hand sawing at a little chunk at the lip. Just imagine the power and speed that thing rips down the channel and across the main return traverse with maybe even just a garden variety windslab like that one. A good reminder to be grateful for micro stases and tree shoulders.

    AND POWDA!

Uhhhh... That did not suck at all-that straightline down hardscrabble(?) was ridiculous.

Also, this solved a little mystery for me as I've watched you rip the shit out of multiple lines at Bridger and always wondered who that was...
