    Trekkers adversely affecting bindings?

I have a dilemma. I've had terrible experiences with Marker, Salomon (3 different pairs... I gave them a good run), and Tyrolia bindings. The only bindings I trust are Look/Rossi. I don't trust AT bindings at all, at least not until they make them a little burlier for skiing.

I am willing to sacrifice ease of use, pack space, weight, and core-ness ( ), and just use Trekkers when I am touring. They don't work well with Looks, I know. I don't care.

Anyway, I was using them last season, and it seemed to me that on steep switch backs they were putting an awful lot of torgue on the bindings. The screws that hold bindings in aren't that long, and Look toes are notorious for popping off. Trekkers give me a high platform (longer lever), and seem to really wrench my body weight against the toe piece in particular. Is this a legitimate concern?

--> commence with the Trekker bashing. I know. I hate them too. But it beats bootpacking.

I think it's just an issue you have to deal with.

It's an obvious sacrifice in climbing performance by using trekkers, you just won't be able to do the steep climbs as easily as your AT brethren. I'm running the rossi axial bindings with the god damn t-plate too, so I get mad height going on. Otherwise pony up for some Naxo's or Fritchi's and learn to trust 'em.

as far as the torque-iness goes, I snapped a trekker in two at the toepiece on some p14's with the DIN at 12 before they actually released. I'd be surprised if they actually damaged your binders.

I had the same concern, in p12ti's on spatulas, talk about torque, fat fat ski, and super high platform, I was really concerned I would snap something, I believe I popped out once at 10. I've solved my problem by mounting a pair of bros with naxos. I realize spats + trekkers = worst touring rig ever, but I was really unimpressed by the trekkers, so much slop.

My gut feeling is that the torque from the climbing with trekkers is a lot smaller than the torque generated when you're making turns at full speed or hucking a cliff.

yeah, I'm going with rune on this one.
If it really is a concern, back the toes off for the hike up and crank the DIN back down on the way down.

If there is too much tourque then the toes will just release. Think it through it happens just the same way when you bail and your ski comes off. The only difference is if the trekkers are adjusted to a different lenght than your boots. Then the settings change. The difference in toe height of the trekker and your ski boots could make a difference if you had adjusted your boots by say wearing them thin or putting vibram on them. But this only applies to manual height adjutable bindings so in your case the poiint is moot.

Myself when I was using securifixes a lot I ended up with markers because my salamons would release diagonaly in the toes and drop me on the floor when skiining across icy slopes. Of course the markers then dropped me when I was skiing down. But they did at least hold the securifix in more tightly.

I now just put up with the slop issues of Freerides. But I'm heading towards a dynafit setup. Maybee on all skis.

Beauty, thanks gentlemen. I'm definitely going to put in my dues with Trekkers, but I see an AT setup somewhere in my future...
