For the Maggots: $5 Cell Phone

Friend moved back from the US, so he got a cell phone for a few months.
I knwo NOTHING about cell phones.
Just that this is as new, has the box, some paperwork and some attachements.
    Recharge should be there etc.
    Model is LG VX 3300

For $5 how can you go wrong?
For the cost of a sissy latte, you can have a backup phone for that time when you get wasted and lose yours. Or, a "direct line" for your mistress

Again, I dunno if it's a POS/whatnot, but my friend had it for 2 months.
he asked me to post it here.
so yeah $5 is a beer, plus shipping of course :-P

    Hope this helps someone.

My phone sucks. If this will work on the Qwest network, I'll take it. I'll need to find out, will get back to you by tomorrow night (I probably won't be able to find out until then).

Well, I'll have to find out in the morning if this phone will work with Qwest. I've been out all day, and didn't have a chance to call them, and the service center is now closed. Service center opens at 7am MST...so I'll try them then, and post back. Thanks...

Sorry for my delay...from what I can find out, this is most likely a Verizon phone? In any case, if it isn't a Qwest-network phone, I can't use it.

So...anon...it may be exactly what you need.

Looking through my old posts, I still have this.
Can anyone use it? It's collecting dust.

It's a Verizon phone (CDMA network), but will also work on US Cellular and TracFone.

    Here's the info http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php?p=617

Sorry...You are correct! That's what I get for drinking and posting, and I'm even a dealer, so I should've known better.

One HUGE thing for those who go deep backcountry, this phone is Tri-Mode.

This means you CAN pick up analog if needed.

I would take it, but I have a V710, Sam a530, Treo 700w and now a Blackberry 8830 for work. I like having backups when I ski so my personal Treo does not get messed up. ESN switch online every sat. night during the season to a cheap small phone for the slopes on Sundays.

Ok say no one picks this up, is there a way to set it up in Canada?
    Like Rogers/Bell for pay-as-you-go?
I just don't like the idea of plans, or paying X$$$ for a phone when there's one that works.
^^Funny, never thought of that `till now.

Or even put pre-pay on it for when I travel to the US?

What carriers do you have in your area and if you have internet addys that you can post, I could tell you.

Yes, you could set it up in the US on a pay as you go. Memosteve???

The carrier needs to be using CDMA technology, like Verizon and Sprint here in the US. It may need to be unlocked though.

cdma is telus and I think bell. Definitely not rogers/fido. Not sure about the smaller outfits. You need to 'unlock' the phone for it to work.
It's not so much the model year, it's the high mileage or meterage to keep the youth of Canada happy

I dont think you need to unlock it to use it on a CDMA network, just have it registered. I think unlocking is only for the GSM phones (in Canada thats Rogers).
