    Santa Fe/Taos Reccos

Indeed, search function. I found many many many restaurant reccos and a couple of todo's that way what I didn't find a lot of are:

hotel reccos (nice but moderately priced, prefer < 150/night [and am happy in interesting 40-50/night places])
hot springs reccos (either commercial or freeball feel free to PM me if you would like to not announce to the world where one is)

Must do hot springs. North of Espanola on the "back" way to Toas. Worth a side trip for sure.

    and another in SF...

    Nice but can be pricey.

the water at ojo caliente is natural mineral and really nice. 10k waves is not a natural spring but a very nice and romantic environment.

All the recs in this thread are cash$$. Ojo Caliente is cheap and worth it along with 10k waves. I did some crazy yoga/message/stretching prior to going to Taos....it was cool...worth the travel. I would also rec Fred's on Taos if it is still open (I know they shut down). The Taos Inn is also a good place for beers.

If the snow pack is garbage in Taos just travel to Wolf Creek and stay at the PGS hot springs motel. Good luck -G

yeah this is a non-ski trip just with the wife. so stuff like ojo is prime. And a day at PGS is already tentatively scheduled as we both like that place a lot.

Just west of Arroyo Hondo is where the John Dunn bridge crosses the Rio Grande. After you cross the bridge heading west, there will be several switch backs heading up the hill. Generally you can park at the first one and walk along the river where you will come to a natural hot spring at the rivers edge.

The road there is a little rough in some places since it was the stage coach route, but it should be a piece of cake for a red neck.

It’s not too hard to find since it’s the put in place for boaters running the Taos box.

Take the money you saved by going to a free hot spring and hit up Outback pizza afterwards

Another good rec....Outback is solid. If this is a non ski thing go up the road a little more and check out some recycleable homes (Earthships).... pretty cool.

probably on the high end cost-wise for your trip, but 10,000 waves has pretty romantic casitas for rent.
ya know, beer is far more than just the world's most perfect breakfast food.

    Adobe and stars

The Libra room is $120 per night. 9 miles from Taos. Includes nice hot tub, and really good breakfast.

I totally second this notion. Really cool.

Take a side trip to Bandalier National Park.

The Old Taos Guest House is where we always stay.

I boiled my thermometer, and sure enough, this spot, which purported to be two thousand feet higher than the locality of the hotel, turned out to be nine thousand feet LOWER. Thus the fact was clearly demonstrated that, ABOVE A CERTAIN POINT, THE HIGHER A POINT SEEMS TO BE, THE LOWER IT ACTUALLY IS. Our ascent itself was a great achievement, but this contribution to science was an inconceivably greater matter.

I second the Old Guest House, the owners are really cool and old friends of ours. Sweet outdoor hottub, close to town, and probably not too many guests for a while. They are a old ski bum family and as hospitable as they come. http://www.oldtaos.com/

Stay out of the hippie springs by the Rio Grande bridge, unless you like dirty hippies bathing for their one time of the month.

I do like the Trading Post, Bravos (vast beer selection), and Joesph's Table (pricey but the food is top notch).

Have fun, and stop by the Bent Street Cafe and Deli next to the plaza. Charlene and TK run a great cafe, and are old ski bums as well.

Have fun, it's a great time of the year to be down there.

wanted to thank everyone for their reccos both public and private we had a very nice time.

    Two casitas = money
Ojo caliente = money although DO NOT stay in the hotel b/c the walls are insanely thin
    Tia Sophias = money
    The Shed = money
    Plaza Diner = money
    El Paragua = money
    Orlando's = money

in other news, if you have the coin the food at La Fonda is GREAT, we had a light dinner there (cheese plate + foie gras) that was OUTSTANDING the foie gras was the best I've ever had and I eat it every chance I get.

in the D'OH category I got an email today from my long out of contact buddy Scott Barady (ruling tele skier and sometimes comp winner) that he just opened a pizza joint (Piazanos Pizza & Pasta in Taos). Shitty missed connection on my part but stop in and support Scott if you're in town.

Just cuz i saw Santa Fe in there...

I stayed at the Hacienda at Hotel Santa Fe once for work and the place is legit. Pretty f'ing pricey, however really nice. Plus, my room came with a butler, ridiculous, I think the guy was the same age as I. Had no idea what to do with a butler, but it is a funny novelty...

    Super nice rooms...

I know those guys, we had Thanksgiving dinner there last year before they opened the restaurant. Piazanos is good stuff, I'd highly recommend stopping in.
