    Exclamation 2007 Freeskiing Competition Schedule

March looks like a busy month kids. And the World Tour Finals have been moved to a new venue....Tignes, FR. But looks like Kirkwood is still a World Tour event as well as the US Series Finals. And I wonder where Stop #2 of the US Series will end up being....And holy shit, looks like Snowbird and Kirkwood world tour qualifiers have been extended from one day to two days, so it looks like there will be even more peeps competing for the same number of spots. Looks like things just got a little harder to qualify for these things.

Here's a direct link to the press release:

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

2007 Subaru U.S. Freeskiing Series & Freeskiing World Tour Athlete Information
    -EVENT SCHEDULE

    -NEW EVENT & REGISTRATION POLICIES

    -PRE-QUALIFIED ATHLETE LIST

    TO ALL ATHLETES:

Winter is fast approaching and that means so is competition season. After a hugely successful tour in 2006, MSI has decided to grow the Subaru U.S. Freesking Series by adding a fifth event. With the new event and expanded programs, such as same-day video, photo, and story coverage, 2007 is set to be the best year yet.

Registration for all events in the Subaru U.S. Freeskiing Series will begin on:

    November 1, 2006.

To register, please log onto www.usfreeskiing.com. To guarantee entry, athletes interested in competing—including World Tour IFSA pre-qualified athletes (see list below)—must register prior to the event and pay in full to be considered officially registered. A partial payment/deposit, will NOT secure you a spot. As always, entries are limited and events sell out within days, so we urge you to register early to avoid disappointment.

On the first morning of each event all athletes must check in at registration and sign waivers, purchase lift tickets, and receive bibs and start order. As a reminder, IFSA (International Freeskiers Association) memberships ARE REQUIRED for all athletes competing in the Subaru U.S. Freeskiing Tour and Freeskiing World Tour. Please go to www.freeskiers.org to sign up. We are working to add a link from usfreeskiing.com to register for membership.

Due to the popularity of the Snowbird and Kirkwood World Tour Qualifiers, the qualifier run has been extended to a two-day event, with each athlete still only getting one run to qualify. This will increase the amount of athletes who are given the chance to qualify for the World Tour event.

Damn you! I'm thinking of taking time off from work for the Kirkwood comp...then again, I'd better improve a shitload to even qualify...no point in competing if I don't qualify...I just want the opportunity to ski the cirque....

Why aren't Tyrone and Kush pre-qualified? I'd say hospital air at Kirkwood should at least get you a berth in the Kwood comp....

any word on whether or not there will be a legit canadian tour this year? I can't take enough time off class to compete in many american events, so i might as well try to hit all 3 (4? Kicking Horse?) Canadian events.

    Thanks for posting ty.

Also, congrats to Drew Tabke on being prequalified and also on that writeup in Skiing. You're killing it.

If you qualified at Kirkwood did you always then have to pay an additional $125 for the main event? $225 to ski the Cirque...

    Yes.

Of course, you can ski the Cirque after KW closes for just the cost of a little exercise. Or, you can ski it before opening day if we get a lucky early dump....it's gnarlier early season anyway

I ski the cirque exclusively during the summer months.

I'd like to add some dates.
Molson Candian Freeskiing Championships at Red Mountain- Jan 10th-14th.
Registration is now open too...Sam sign up.

Lake Louise Big Mountain Challenge-Feb 21-25th.

    Fernie Freeskiing Challenge-March 14th-18th.

I'll be competeing at at least these three comps.

Also Crystal's Silver King Freeride is March 14th-18th. I sent them an e-mail asking them to change it. I would love to compete on the king but there will be no compeitors since both Fernie and Jackson Hole occupy those dates. I e-mailed them to change it since that comp is the most informal. Maybe some other people who are interested in competing there (my reason-its the closest comp to Vancouver) can e-mail them as well. Try to get the snowball rolling for another comp with good dates for the PNW crew. I told them to switch the dates to an earlier week/weekend in March.

Hmmm, not sure I see the the problem here. This is just the kind of comp I would like to enter. Let the big dogs all go the big comps, and a few of us "little dogs" could try that out.

I want to go that's the problem. I'll be at Fernie those dates. I'm a whore I guess, but for Crystal it makes since. More competitors, more exposure, more money, etc.

Heh, uh, bring a kidney belt for the qualifiers. One that will soak up the car sized bumps, and then doubles as a sling to slide the telephone cable after you swing from the chair over the top cliff band.

The semi/finals on Mt. Roberts are pretty sickbird though. A lot like Crystal Mtn.s Silver King mountain, but way rowdier. There are entrance lines at Mt. Roberts that have never been skied.

The fucked up thing is the Europeans are getting what is basically a reverse handicap. They are already better than the North Americans (at least according to rankings), but instead of adding another North America location as a world tour stop, another European stop has been added. Two in NA, three in the EU. Sweet. Not to mention that the newly added stop is in Tignes, home town of Chicherit, the reigning world champ.

But hey, who cares? A little homefield disadvantage won't hurt us. Us yanks are comin' for the title, watch out eurosexuals!

Finals were in Tignes for a long time till about 4yrs or so ago. However, the resort management kinda got all cautious about everything, so it ended as a tour stop.
However, things have started to swing around again there - probably in part to Chicheret being involved again (they tend to listen to the local 'superstar' for some reason ) and also had Manu Gaidet organise a BM comp there last year which went pretty well with everyone.

Besides, its BIG mountain. And we all know its between the Euros and Canucks in that category...

would it be just silly to propose an age-protected masters division? like 40+ and we can compete for our own payouts from our entrance fees (I ain't a master yet but I'm gettin closer- but isn't everyone...)
seems like it could attract even more competitors that would spend money but it might also "water down" the event I guess...
meh... probably not /thinkin out loud

I think the Crested Butte comp usually has a Masters division. Scott Kennett from older Stump movie fame usually does well there I think. Not sure what the age bracket is though.

Is there a canine division also?

my hounders would kick ass in the canine master (old dog) division- see the avatar...
but really I ain't the guy who's gonna travel too far anyway- what would be fun (for a homebound guy like me) is a local series of events like 4 to 6 throughout the year and regardless of the snow conditions...
but that's another topic.... good luck to any mags (alto, ty etc) doin the real thing
