Hey Maggots, newbie here. I've lurked around here for a while but this is my first post. My wife and I are planning to move to the Denver area around the first of December. We're both late 20's and have no kids. I'm tired of the east coast beach area life. I've been here in Hampton Roads for 10 years now while serving in the Navy and I'm ready to go. I've been out to CO five times I guess in the last two winters for ski trips. I've made a few friends out there, so we'll at least know a couple of people when we move.
I know there are a number of people here from the Denver area so I thought I'd ask a few questions. I'm currently working for Raytheon on a wide-area surveillance radar and recently finished 10yrs active duty Navy service as an electronics technician. I'll be sending resumes, etc. before we make the move, but I'm not counting on having a job lined up before we move. I would really like to get into the home theater, a/v line of work. As an installer to start with since I don't have any industry experience. It's a hobby of mine and have put together my own systems and helped friends with theirs. Does anyone happen to know anyone in the industry in the Denver area? Anyone else with the same interest here that can pass along some company names in the area?
If that doesn't work out I will most likely stay in the electronics field. I don't think I'll have too much of a problem finding work in the field once I get out there. I sent resumes and applied to lots of places earlier this year before I released from active duty, but got no feedback. I feel that it was mainly due to me not being local to the area. I hope once I get there things will be different.
Also, we'll be looking for an apartment instead of jumping in and buying another home. I know that most apartments require verification of income before leasing a place. How does one make a move to a new area with the intentions of finding work once there and trying to find a place to live? lol
I guess that's about it. I'm just bored here at work and thought I'd throw out some questions and see if I can make a few connections with some more Denver locals before we head that way. Thanks.
Mike
