    Salomon/Atomic follows Descente and others!!

Well, it's official. AMER announced today they will be consolidating their North American distribution and corporate offices to Ogden, Utah! They anticipate completing the move in june or july of 2007. AMER officials anticipate hiring up to 60% new staff as a result, with average wages hovering around $65k a year. Sucks for Portland, but good news for Ogden. REcently Descente NA, Scott USA, and GOODE have also moved to Ogden, I imagine more will follow. Looks like Snowbasin may get a little busier this year boys!

Scott's offices are still in Idaho. There's also that small company called Quicksliver that is in PC too you know.

True both Scott and Smith have their corporate offices in Idaho, but have their distribution centers located in Utah. Scott is in Ogden, Smith in CLearfield. They both were housed in the same facility at one time. Rossi, Dynastar and I believe ROXY, Quicksilver, and DC stuff is distributed out of Ogden, while corporate headquarters are located in PC.

I don't know why it sucks for Portland. Salomon's corporate offices haven't been in Portland since Adidas ceased to own them AFAIK.

Because 75 jobs are going away, and they didn't get the 73 new ones that could have come?

Ding, ding, ding - correct answer.
A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Ptavv, I believe salomon and atomic operated out of their current facilities after the buyout while they were looking for a new facility. I might also mention it sucks for people in Amherst, NH (ATOMIC) and Carlsbad, CA (SUUNTO). Ogden Mayor Mathew Godfrey was quoted in today's Salt Lake Tribune as saying "We believe Ogden will be the next Boulder of the U.S." I am sure Flykdog and others can't wait.

It is as the prophecies foretold. I am stoked that Ogden is going to turn around (much needed), but I'm not too thrilled with what it will mean for the home mountain. Last year the DNA kids were some of the few people we'd see at all in the areas we were in. I'm sure each year it will continue to get worse. Must buy sled.

You're smart, enterprising and can create free time for yourself. Why not start your own resort? Call it Meat Mountain, or Meat Creek, or Meat Canyon...errr, nevermind...

I dunno. I have seen many hotties in and around Weber State, and there is nice land to be had near the reservior at the base of Snowbasin.

I'm with MD on this. I obviously want Ogden to succeed, as it directly benefits me. But wow, I hate to see the reasons I like it here disappear. I've known for a while that the Basin I fell in love with years ago was going to change, but I fear what may happen to the easy access bc and trails.

I'm moving to another ghetto. Will the running from the outdoors-for-status, volvo driving, euro-trash-hipster's ever end!?
