    Seattle Mags: Best ISP?

Mrs. YesIsaidYes and I just bought our first house on Beacon Hill and are in the market for some internet. Can anyone recommend a best ISP for that area? Or even an avoid at all costs one?

Is cost an issue? If not, then you can't beat cable. I had Comcast for quite awhile and was quite happy with it, 'til cost became an issue. Now I have Earthlink DSL and once they got the bugs worked out (took a few weeks) it's been quite reliable, just not as fast, but considering I get unlimited phone service and DSL internet for the same cost I used to just get internet for, I'm not complaining.

Cost is definitely an issue - what's the cost difference between DSL and cable?

I'm pretty sure that either Verizon or Qwest (depending on who covers your area) has "budget" DSL for like $14.95 - $19.95 month. That might not be free, but it's close enough. I live out in the 'burbs (Mill Creek) and have Verizon (very reliable), although I probably ought to switch to Comcast as it's faster and about the same price.

The DSL package I got from Earthlink was unlimited long distance & local phone service and DSL internet for $49.95/mo. Comcast charged that much for cable internet alone. Going this route is saving me about $30/mo. If you make a lot of long distance phone calls (I don't) the savings could be considerably more.

The only thing I really miss about the cable internet is that streaming videos are sometimes herky-jerky with DSL.

I think Qwest and Verizon both have similar offers.
