It's still puking. We were in the Cliff's hottub for 30 minutes and at least 1/2 inch of snow formed on my jacket during that time. That was at 7:00pm local, and it hasn't let up yet.

Tomorrow will be SCHWEEEET!

I thought this might be a relevant place to put this. I was watching the weather channel last night and learned that the largest snowfall accumulation in the lower 48 in a twenty-four hour period was 76 inches, which took place in Silver Creek, Colorado...holee shit!

I have often wondered about the 24 hour record. In 1985 there was a day that Alyeska got over 36". Portage that day got 60+, and the rumors that I heard where that Whittier got 100+.

It did drop over one foot in one hour in Portage during that storm. The storm was so thick, there was lightning flashing everywhere, lighting the sky to an imense whiteness of white.

Powerful lake effect snow bands battered the Great Lakes region from the 10th through the 14th. Snowbands to the east of Lake Ontario moved very little during the height of the event. Incredible snowfall rates of 3 to 6 inches per hour persisted for up to 12 hours. Three locations in the Tug Hill Plateau area recorded over 90 inches. Montague, NY (Lewis County) recorded 95 inches over the event, 40 inches of which fell in 12 hours from Saturday night through Sunday morning (11th-12th). Over a 24-hour period, the site recorded 77 inches, one inch more than the standing United States 24-hour snowfall record, set at Silver Lake, Colorado in April, 1921.

It seems there is much conflict over the record. NOAA sites state that the record is 76" at Silver Lake, while the WRCC (a branch of NOAA) claims the record is 80" near Shasta CA.

NOAA also claims WA state record is 65" at Crystal, while WRCC records 70" at Rainer.
