I'm no ebay power seller, so I haven't had much experience with money orders as payment, but haven't had any problems. I suppose there is some risk in that...but I figure, as long as I take it to the bank and verify it's legit BEFORE I send out the item, my only risk is the hassle of finding out it's not, and then having to re-list the item. Guaging just from the disdain for paypal often discussed here, I don't think it's generally a red flag if someone would rather pay via money order or cashier's check, because they don't want to mess with paypal...as long as they're not trying the old "the check will be for more than the item...please send the extra with my shipper who will pick up the item from you" scam.

Just let him know that you'll be waiting 5 business days for it to clear before you ship the item. That should ensure that it doesn't bounce or get tagged as bogus.

yeah - as long as you get the money before you ship... should be fine.

This is different than the western union scam - where the seller only accepts western union. there are, in general, fewer ways for a buyer to screw a seller than for sellers to screw buyers, as the money usually flows before the gear is shipped.

Go with your gut, and what your selling. If it the carb off a '91 Ford Escort that your selling for $15 your probably ok, but if it's a new $1200 digi cam, be really leary and make sure the seller know you're going to wait until the check clears.... But be aware there are plenty of fake money orders out there!

Thanks guys, I told him as long as he was willing to wait for me to make sure the check clears I have no problem, and I suggested he try setting up paypal, because it's so easy.
